Taping of the Christmas Parade

We signed up for to see the taping of the Christmas Parade on TV on December 2. Do they send you the tickets in the mail? Send you an E-mail ticket. We are excited about going. We made the deadline, just waiting for the official word.

i didnt know you had to sign up for that last year we just went to the park and saw it...

There was an email address for the production company, lightship, that you could submit a request to be an 'extra' during the tapings on Friday and Saturday. There were no Sat slots open when I got to the site, but the two for Friday were still open. Sent out the email and 5 days later got an email back saying that I was in. But, as of Nov 13 no more slots were open.
I was told, in the email they sent me, that there would an email on Nov 28 with the vouchers we would need and any info that was necessary.
From what I understand, when we get to a particular turnstyle, we show our vouchers and are sent to a particular area to await further instruction. THen they will put us in whatever area they want. I guess you can just amble up Main St. (some have said they couldn't) and watch, but I don't know how many extras they are using. They also told us we couldn't take videos, photos or request autographs. So, I wonder how they will manage those without vouchers, coming in after park opening and taking videos or photos. But, it will be fun, if a bit boring since you have to stand around and wait for long periods of time while they set shots up. It's not like watching the regular parade in the afternoon.

The AP website said that AP holders are allowed in to watch the taping but to be considered an "extra" and have a chance of being on TV you needed to email the production company and they will email you with the tix letter around the 28th I believe.

These tickets are free admission to the park. After the parade you can go into the park. We are going to the VMCP that night anyway. We watch the parade on TV every year. We thought it would be cool to be on TV during the parade. It would be great to tape it on the VCR/Tivo as a memory that will last forever.

I don't know what sort of disclaimers they offered or agreements you had to acknowledge, but just be aware that taping the parade is a nearly full-day event. They start in the morning (9am?) and keep taping as long as there is still some daylight. It's not the 2-hour affair you see on TV. It's a full-blown televison production with multiple camera setups, multiple "takes" (run a float down the street, back it up, and do it again) and a lot of starts and stops.

If you committed to being 100% under the production company's control for the duration of the taping, don't plan on being cut free until around 6pm.

It is cool to be there during the taping and fun to watch on tv and look for yourself. Wear something that stands out so you will have no trouble finding yourself. it DOES take forever to get some of the shots just right according to them. One time this one particular float with some teeny-bopper group came down main street over and over and although it seemed ok to us, something wasn't right and they had to redo it over and all the while, you cannot sit down, you must stand and do whatever they tell you, cheer, wave whatever. I thought it was a fun thing to do and you never know who you might see!

Is this a fun event to participate in? I thought it would be something different for the kids to do. We are AP holders, so go frequently. I thought this would give variety to our trip. I sent in my email to request tickets prior to the cutoff date, so I am assuming we are in.

On the website it indicates the shifts are early morning to late morning and late morning to early afternoon. It doesn't say 7 hours. Can someone confirm this who has been recently?

I am trying to plan my vacation and it is right around the corner. Thanks in advance.

When i did it, i never signed up, just showed up on main street and they asked if we wanted to be in it and said where to stand so i didn't feel obligated to stand there the whole time. after awhile, we moved on to other parts of the park. there was add'l filming back in frontierland so we did a little of that too. they like you to wear those crazy disney christmas hats. If you wear those, you have a better chance of getting on camera. It's fun but it might be boring for kids after awhile. The most fun part for me was trying to stay OFF camera. I wasn't SUPPOSED to be there, i had called off work so i could go and i was afraid they'd see me on TV, lol!
