Don't they usually have high school kids come in to perform? I think the cheerleading group, NCA, usually marches in the parade? I am sure all of those families have booked for the December dates....I wonder what will happen to them?

I was wondering this as well. We were there for the taping a few years back and noticed quiet a few groups of teenagers, it was Dec 1st that we left I think and that was also pop warner if I recall, so the two overlapped.

Groups who will be involved in the taping were notified a few weeks ago. They were given the November dates although specifics weren't given as to exact scheduling.

One question- getting from Frontierland (Splash Mountain) to Adventureland - it is roped off during parades usually. How will it be handled on parade taping day(s)? TIA And I guess a second question- will they intermittently open Main street from Casey's to the Plaza Restaurant to get from Adventureland to Tommorwland?

2 - will they intermittently open Main street from Casey's to the Plaza Restaurant to get from Adventureland to Tommorwland?

First, they don't run the TAPING DAY parade from near Splash Mtn.
They may bring out certain units from there, but it is not a continuous line of
parade units like during the "real" parade performances.

That said, in general...

1- You can get to Adventureland via certain dropped rope areas in-between the parade units.
These are staffed by CMs.

2- Same answer at #1.

There is also a wooden walkway next to the "River" that allows guests to pass behind the parade crowds in Frontierland that leads over to near the Riverboat and Haunted Mansion that guests can use to get to Fantasyland, and by extension, Tomorrowland in that direction.

I am annoyed about this as well, we will be there for these 3 days, ADRs FP+ etc all booked. We have MVMCP tickets for both the 10th and the 13th.
What gets me the most is that we are expected to organize ourselves 6 months in advance but they can throw this at me 2 weeks before we leave.

So does this mean the tree will not be up for these days?

The MK tree (in the past decade) never goes up before the parade taping.
That NORMALLY means that the MK tree will not be put up until the second week of December.
So, had they not moved the parade taping up, you would not have seen the MK tree during your dates, anyway.
This year, it will likely go up weeks earlier.

We were stuck one day in MK during filming. We had no idea it was going to be that day or even week. So much for our planning! It was our first December trip. We went into MK and it was a nightmare. There was no back way to bypass the parade filming. After struggling for 90 minutes fighting our way through the crowds with my mom on an ECV we turned around and left. Took another hour to get out.
It was wall to wall people with CMs yelling to keep the side walks open. What a joke! No one listened and it was just chaos.

This year we made sure that we would not be in MK on the Monday it might be filming in December. I'm soooo happy to hear it's now going to be in November. Never again! Lol

Since you took the time to tell this tale, I think that I (for the benefit of others) have to respond.
(I can hear others screaming at thier computer screens, even now.) ;)

If you had gone a bit further into the park, you would have been completely out of the crowd.
But, since you reversed your path, you took yourself right back through the gauntlet.

MK does not fill up with guests throughout the park on parade-taping days.
It's just Main Street or the Hub.

Funny that's not what I was told by people on there boards when I posted querying what would be different about visiting the parks between the first MVMCPs and the later December ones

Someone mentioned a couple pages ago that the monorail schedule is affected. I haven't seen that addressed or confirmed. Can anyone shed some light on this?

No MK Christmas Tree until after the last day of Parade Taping.
That's the way it's been for many, many years.

While I sympathize with the OP because of the difficulty that this causes, I am not sure how it is Disney's fault. They likely announced the taping as soon as they had the dates set. Its my understanding that there are a lot of different people and groups that have to be coordinated for these things and I doubt that firm dates can be set that far ahead of time. There is always a Christmas parade taping at some point around the holidays. Seriously, I sympathize, but I am just not sure what OP expected them to do.

Sure they can.
I'm guessing the OP expected the same as many of us, that they are as organised as they expect us to be, personally waiting until after people's 45 day mark to announce this is sneaky.

I do fault WDW because they now expect their visitors to "lock in" as they call it FP+ 60 days before they arrive; however WDW won't "lock in" their schedule. In others words WDW wants you locked into your schedule, but once they have you locked in, it is fine for them to not be locked in and make major changes. I think they should be forced to lock in their schedule at the same time the guests lock in theirs.
Exactly

No offense, but that response sounds to me like it comes from someone who's never jumped through fiery hoops to plan specific aspects of their trip (many with cancellation fees), only to have Disney change something with no repercussions to them. If it's realistic for me to decide where I want to eat 6 months in advance, I'd appreciate the same treatment.
This!

. No matter when your trip is some show will change, attraction closed. Make adjustments and roll with it, be HAPPY you are able to go to Disney World! There are many that will never have that experience with their family.
Just think, on Christmas day you can watch the parade and remind your kids how much fun you had on your trip.
BEV

I don't need to be grateful to Disney for allowing me to vacation there, I shouldn't just be Happy with whatever because I am "lucky" enough to be there.
We have worked hard and sacrificed other things to visit, and for those of us overseas we don't get the taping broadcast.

Agreed! If you want a crowd-free vacation - or a vacation where nothing unexpected happens or a vacation where you can control everything, I think you should REALLY consider vacationing somewhere other than Disney World.

Funny because no other vacation do I need to make my dining reservations 6
Months in advance, it really just asking Disney to show us the same "respect" (for lack of a better word) that they expect, they have locked me in with ADRs that can't be changed, with FP bookings and then waited until after people's 45 mark to announce this.
This should have at the very least been announced prior to 60 days out

Meh. I think you should choose vacations that don't make you feel so trapped. It must be very stressful.

The problem was that we couldn't get to the back of the park. Lol. It literally took us 90 minutes to just go half way down Main Street. We really had no idea the park was better beyond Main Street because we couldn't get there. People were blocking the walkway and the stores were mobbed with people trying to get a view. It may have been easier if we didn't have an ECV with us as no one would let us pass. I never said the park itself was crowded. We couldn't even get down Main Street.
As I said before I'm thrilled this isn't happening during our stay.

The monorail is undergoing maintenance that week anyway (and I believe for a time before and after), so with or without the taping you could still have disruption. That has been advertised a few places, as well as any time I've spoken to a CM for ADR changes.

The last time I was there on parade taping day, here's what Liberty Square looked like:

Santa sat outside the Christmas Shop for at least 30 minutes, waiting for his turn to go down Main Street:

I was there a few years ago when the Jonas Brothers were filming for the parade- (there by accident that day). Anyway- Main Street was a nightmare from opening until late in the afternoon. 45 minute wait to get into Cosmic Rays as 11:30 am, and then another 45 minutes to actually get served food. Not my cup of tea- never again will I be at Disney during a parade filming.

Wow glad you can be so blase I am guessing this doesnt effect you.
You are pretty locked into all vacations less than 2 weeks before you leave
