Tap Water Quality in Disney World

You make it sound like Orlando is an undeveloped country or something.
.

My thoughts exactly, Florida isn't a third world country, they have the same rules for safe drinking water that the rest of our nation has. The water here in Plano tastes like DIRT, but it cannot be unsafe (per laws in the US.)
Again, dogs drink out of pools, toilets, puddles, etc. I can't imagine any dog being that sensitive!

Unfortunately, leaving him at home is not an option. We are in a very rural area and we don't have "kennels." The only option is to board him at a vet in a cage with 1 short walk per day. That will not work for a high-energy dog.

I have decided to go ahead and get the bottled water. For me, it's worth the extra $5 per day.

I looked up some more info and research on Orlando water and here are some of the statistics I found:

http://www.homefacts.com/waterquali...nty/Orlando/Orlando-Utilities-Commission.html

Orlando has a 5 out of 10 water rating with 17 chemicals found above health guidelines.

Here is another story about Orlando's water quality: http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/stories/2009/12/21/daily24.html

Orlando was rated one of the worst cities for water quality.

I will come back to read these articles later, thank you for sharing them.

I have one question that comes to mind right away. Is the tap water on Disney property even a product of Orlando's municipal supply, or is it seperate? I would think geographicaly this would NOT be Orlando water, but who knows. :confused3 Perhaps the articles address this, and I apologize if I'm asking a redundant question.

Don't know if WDW water is Orlando water or separate water but I do know it has never made me sick.

Exactly. I only asked because it appears the articles are for ORLANDO water, not neccisarily WDW water. I don't think there's anything wrong with it besides a taste issue, and even being sensitive to tastes, I still drink it just fine. I drink it while pregnant, nursing, not pregnant and nursing, my children drink it, my elderly (err, sorry Grandma, I mean experienced!!) grandma drinks it, my husband drinks it, and we're all just fine. Maybe. :rotfl2:

Some people's stomachs are not used to the water when they travel. I tend to drink bottled water/have a filter on my sink in my FL apartment.

That shows how much what you're used to plays a part in your perception. Our water here at home, in north Florida, comes from a well. It is far, far more sulphuric, even at the best of times, than anything I've ever tasted in Orlando. At times our tap water here smells strongly like rotten eggs. In all my years of touring WDW and the Orlando area (about 50 trips, give or take, since 1997), I've never encountered anything like that.

Hi

Yes, you're right about what we are used to.

My experience was based on the room we were in at the GF (GREAT room upgrade btw) I don't know if all the rooms were that bad. We only stayed there once. We couldn't drink it but the worst was when I bought a nice smelling bath "ball" from BASIN at DTD and filled the tub - the scent was immediately overpowered by the full tub of sulphur water. We could smell it while showering (actually took quicker showers because of it) and taste it when brushing our teeth but the shower/bath was the worst! We've stayed twice at the Poly, right across from the GF and never noticed this. Also, AKL, POR and SoG.

We always buy large gallons of water to drink at WDW in the room no matter which resort we are at. Never had a problem with the water at any WDW eatery since they are filtered, but we don't use the water fountains.

And yes, I grew up in the NW mountains with pristine water from a well that we had to drill really deep to reach. It was naturally filtered by lava rock. The city water there was also excellent. I've also lived in NY city and surprisingly, their water is very good. It comes from upstate. We are on city water now that has no unusual tastes and everyone gets the official water treatment tests sent to their home each year. (Or twice a year, I forget.)

So to me the sulphur was overpowering. If I had to deal with what you described as worse I don't think I would handle it very well.

We do have stinky water here which is probably why we don't mind WDW's water. We drink it from the fountain and have never noticed anything wrong with it.

The only good water we have found in Disney is in Downtown Disney. I have no idea as to why this would be. The water always smells and tastes weird to us. Not at all like the good old over-chlorinated Milwaukee water that we are used to.
