Our family just returned from a trip to Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson Arizona. It is a beautiful place and very enjoyable, but I would advise all who go to take out trip insurance and extra accident insurance. There were many accidents while we were there, including two which were children riding in the children's programs. My husband was thrown from his horse during a walking ride, broke 3 ribs and pulled multiple cartiladges in his chest. It happened three days into our trip, on the way back from the breakfast ride. Tanque Verde was very good at getting the emergency treatment that was needed. We had to extend out stay by 2 days, since my husband could not fly right after it happened. It was a very costly trip. We were charged the regular room rate for our extra nights stay even though we weren't able to participate in any of the included activities. I never take the travel insurance that's offered when I book trips, but we would have been wise to have done so, and I would advise all who participate in this type of vacation to purchase it.

Thank you so much for sharing this information!!! I was thinking of going to TVR, but I wasn't sure if my one dd would be afraid since we saw a little girl get thrown from a horse one time and she hasn't forgotten about it. I really thought that TVR would have a very limited number of incidents since it has such a good reputation and is such a family type of place (understanding that accidents can happen anywhere, but...). I was also really shocked that they made you pay full price to stay and heal after getting thrown from one of their horses! I don't know, that doesn't sound all that reasonable to me. :confused3

It is always nice to hear about people's experiences using the concierge collection, but... I am so sorry about what happened to your husband. How awful for that to happen during a vacation. :guilty: I hope he is doing ok at home now. Poor guy.

Thanks for sharing your experience and again, I am so sorry.

OUCH! Geesh, I hope DH is healing well!

I agree that you should not have had to pay the full price for your room! That is really poor service on their part. Interesting!

my daughter was there last momth and managed to get dumped also, has a REALLY sore knee. she said the horse tried to roll on her but she jumped off first. We are from Idaho anf know how to ride i do not know what is up..... :scratchin :scratchin

My thoughts on this are that their getting busier, and less attention is paid to safety issues for all riders.

I might be wrong, but I don't believe travel insurance would cover an extended stay per se. It would probably cover medical costs and trip interruption, but I don't believe it would cover extending the stay. Just check out the details to see what it covers prior to purchasing.
