Tanks or t-shirts in summer?

Which do you wear? I'm leaning towards tanks b/c I don't like material on my arms when I'm hot. But, I've read on here that there is more shoulder burn with tanks. Would this really happen with sunscreen?

You would need to sunscreen pretty often. Everyone is different, but generally the shoulder areas are the first to burn. Even my daughter's shoulders (who is 1/4 Thai and keeps a great tan year round) got sunburned after a day on the boat last week and we applied SPF 70 twice.

If you decide on tanks, just be mindful of extra sunscreen on your shoulders.

FWIW, I find running tshirts to be cooler -- the ones made with material that wick moisture away. They are usually made of nylon/polyester blends. The less cotton the better. You can find these at running stores, but can usually find them for much less at TJMaxx or Marshalls. Check the material content. Go for ones with no cotton or very little cotton.
The same goes for socks. Look for socks specifically made for running -- nylon/polyester/rubber/spandex blends. Cotton just holds the sweat in. I've even recently noticed that Wal Mart/Target had running socks. Your feet will thank you.

I wear tanks. I could never wear a t-shirt in August when we go, it's just go hot for me. We go at the end of summer so we all already have some color to us and with sunscreen we really don't burn. We are all pretty light skin too. We never spend the entire day in a park either so sunscreen is re-applied at some point during the day when we are back at our room.

I have a fair skinned family. The kids have worn tanks, I personally don't like the sun beaming on my shoulders so I wear light t's. We sunblock alot though, I normally take the time sitting waiting for a show to start, or in line to re apply if its a slower line. I probably over apply, but the last thing you want is you to be burnt and spend the rest of your vacation burnt. Just make sure you use your down time to slap some more sun screen on and you will be fine whatever your wearing.

I prefer to wear tanks in the summer. I know this is gross but I prefer t-shirts if I am going to get hot and sweaty For some reason if I am wearing a t-shirt that covers my armpit my deoderant last longer and less chafing. I notice when I wear a tank top I get smelly fast as there is nothing to absorb the moisture and the skin is rubbing together.:crazy2:

I wear tank tops. It's just too hot for me to wear tshirts. I don't wear sunscreen and I don't burn bad. I mean i'm not out in the sun like I would be if I spent the day at the beach. Alot of the ride lines are in the shade or inside. And we're constantly going in and out of places. If you burn, wear sunblock.

5-7 days in Florida summer sun and no one burns? :rotfl2:

We wear thin t-shirts. The UV index is off the charts in the summer here. Some people wear peeling skin as a badge of honor. If you wish to protect your skin, wear thin t-shirts. They are cooler than tanks as the sun isn't beating down on your shoulders. Do not wear heavyweight t's like you would in cool, Fall weather.

I usually wear tshirts at Disney, just for the added protection on my shoulders.

But I will occasionally wear tanks. I just make sure to use enough sunscreen, and reapply often throughout the day. We also take frequent breaks in the shade, regardless of what we're wearing!

I wear t-shirts.

What about a compromise -- wear your tanks in the early morning or evening?

I go back and forth - I wear t-shirts on really sunny days to protect my shoulders. I also usually put a shirt on over a tank unless it's really hot.

I wear tank tops every time we go. I'm fare skin and with sunscreen, I'll burn but it's not a bad burn. i usually apply sunscreen 3 times a day. I also like to take fishing shirts. I buy the ones made by Magellan from Academy. They are made of very light weight material and most come with spf material. They are very cool, dry fast and won't stick to you.

I'm taking tank tops and t-shirts. The final decision on which one will be worn will be made that morning when I'm getting dressed, and will depend on what the temperature that day will be.

I wore tank tops when I was there last year. We were there August 29-September 8th. I only put sunscreen on in the morning and after being in the water. I was quite surprised that not only did I not burn but didn't really get any more colour than I already had, which isn't much since I'm a pale redheaded Canadian. I did have a bit of a tan when we went because I had about 8 sessions at the tanning beds and whatever I got outside all summer but I work in an office all day so that wasnt much either.

I think everyone is different and the sun affects them differently.

To the pp who mentioned that they notice an odour wearing tank tops, I have noticed the same thing and I'm not one for having a problem with that.

I only wear tanks in the summer..lol My kids normally wear tanks..get a good sunscreen and reapply and you wont get burnt. I have to say we have been using Blue Lizard sunscreen (small bottle, expensive..lol) and in the 8 years of using, my kids have NEVER had a sunburn. It is thick and creamy and soooo waterproof (you actually see the water droplets on the skin after you get out of the pool..lol)

Even in the middle of summer, I prefer t-shirts. If it's really hot, I roll the sleeves under to make a tank top and roll them back down when it's cooler or I'm inside.

Well my kids all wear tanks & I do put sun screen on them but they don't burn when we go because they already have good color to their skin.

If I had skinny arms I'd wear tanks too.

For my kids I always bring 2 short sleeve shirts but they never wear them. Well maybe on the plane but I let them choose.

OT, one year before dh & I were married/had kids. He brought a ton of button down shirts because that is what he likes to wear. Well they sat in the closet on the hangers until it was time to pack up. I think he wore one when we went to down town Disney at night but that is it. He wore t-shirts the rest of the time. Now he knows....

I just wanted to add something else for you to worry about. :lmao: Don't forget about your scalp. I can wear tanks all day and rarely burn, buy my scalp burned so bad one time that it blistered. I now make sure I have sunscreen for my hair and scalp.

And ears!

Tank tops for me, short-sleeve T-shirts for DH and DS. I burn easily but can usually apply sunscreen twice a day and not burn. It's going to be different for everyone.
