tank tops and shorts, oh no

I've been looking for that wicking clothing and the lightweight capris but not finding it in a plus size. I wear a 16 on the bottom but I'm not even finding that.

I've walked the dogs two days in a row, today will make 3. It's a start. I'd like to lose 30 lbs before we go. But then my new clothes will be too big, lol.
.

Good for you, OP, keep on walking! As a PP said, walking to build up stamina is a great idea...you will feel much better with all of the walking that you'll end up doing in the parks. My boss had warned me that her first time at WDW she walked so much that she could barely put her feet down the next day. I start the whole family on walking a few months before a trip (the dog loves this too :)).

As for me, I don't do sleeveless anything. I'm one of those people that wear sunscreen all year long, during the summer I will burn like crazy. I tend to expose as little flesh as possible. August is going to be hot, exposing more flesh isn't going to make you any cooler and a sunburn is going to make you miserable.

Last year I came up with a great solution for hot weather park wear. A work shirt over a tank top. The work shirt covers up and allows air to flow, plus the button flap pockets are great for keeping important things secure. And a trick that I picked up from riding a motorcycle in full leathers during the summer...if you wet down the tank top it will help to keep you cool.

For swimming, I got a pair of board shorts at Lands End (I believe they go to size 18 :)). Pockets, OK to wear in the parks & in the water & keeps more of me covered. These come almost to my knees. Love them!

Also a great tip that I got from the DIS is using bodyglide on any parts that might rub (ie toes in shoes). If you have thighs that "kiss" you can apply the bodyglide before you pull your shirts on and you won't rub your thighs raw.

my bathing suit fits! I'm so relieved. And my mom has a brand new one she'll never be able to use in the same size.

I'm gonna pack the sleeveless tops (but keep the packaging in case I don't wear them) and short sleeve tops and see what works out better. Putting a pair of my favorite capris in there, too.

we don't leave till August but I put my suitcase in my room last night, lol. I want to throw stuff in as i remember it.

I burn. Do you ever wear a sunhat down there? I have a really nice goretex hat that is great in the sun. I just have to find it, we moved recently.

take allllllll the pictures! on our last trip, my favorite picture was this one of me and roger rabbit taken from a side profile in a strapless dress with a sleeveless vest for everyone and their mommas to see my big arms.

a site i love is onestopplus.com. they have a lot of other brands like woman within and roamans, but they ALWAYS have 50% off highest item in your cart coupons out on the internet, so if i want a few items i usually do them all separately because the savings is larger.

Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Think of it this way: You aren't going to see these people again (well, except your family) so what does it matter if you don't look the best in tanktops and shorts? I would rather be comfortable then fashionable!

Totally agree with queenofthehive. abmitch01, don't miss the chance to be part of the memories in your family photos. I lost my dad to cancer in 2010, and I treasure every picture I have of him now. I couldn't care less if his hair was messed, his shirt untucked, or his belly protruding.....those photos are like gold to me. I get what you are feeling....having struggled with my weight for a good part of my life, I can empathize with your point of view. That said, this is a great article. I read it before every trip. And I now make a point of getting in the picture for my son's sake. :goodvibes

Loved the article! Brought tears to my eyes because I try to avoid pictures as much as possible. Every time I want to find a picture of myself, I have to look back for years or in pictures other people have taken of me. But I'm done with that. I will be in more pictures from now on. We're getting Memory Maker for our WDW trip in August and I'm going to make the most of it!

I found the hat in the first box I opened!

my mom read the article but still said she's not taking more pictures. But I have my ways. Like once DD, my mom and I got manicures together. I insisted we take a picture of our hands together. My moms hands are all gnarled from arthritis, she put up a fuss but she did it for my daughter. I love that picture.

I'm a hospice nurse and one of our social workers is a great photographer. She offers to take family photos of our dying patients. The pictures are beautiful. I have to think about things like that instead of feeling fat. Who cares, right?

Exactly - who cares?? Be comfortable, that's what counts. Keep on walking it's the best gift you can give yourself.

One thing I do while there in August is carry a facecloth in a little baggie. I will wipe my face and neck several times a day. I find it refreshing.

Oh and have you been on the WISH boards here?? They have weight loss challenges/encouragement threads.

Good Luck!!

met my goal of walking the dogs three times this week and i still have 2 days to fit in more. Disney is a good motivator. Even when I was fat, I could always walk fast for a long time. Then I hit the 200 lb mark and it's hard to walk fast. I hate that. But I'm working on it.

Good for you! Keep it up! Walk every day that you can. Give yourself and your DD a gift, take care of yourself.
I too find Disney highly motivating. Anytime I am having an ugly moment or day I just think of my happy place and work through it. I am so excited to go, but already dreading coming back. It will be a very long time before we get to vacation again.

We've gone in August the last several years. I wear capris - prefer the rip stop ones from Eddie Bauer. I just would not be comfortable in shorts. If I get wet on rides like Kali, they dry pretty quickly and they are light enough to be comfortable in the heat. Just stick to light colors. I try to wear thin cotton peasant tops or tees.
