I just saw the newest menu for the Tangerine Cafe on Allears. It no longer lists the Shawarma platter, just a shawarma sandwich. And remembering the amount of meat in the platter, a sandwich would have much less-

But is the sandwich pretty much the same thing otherwise? Or is the shawarma platter still there and just got left off the menu I saw (I hope that's it).

Oh no! I hope it's not gone. We were planning to go there just for the platter. I'm avoiding bread, so a sandwich really wont work for me...:sad2:

you know I think the shwarma sandwich as listed on that new menu (the one that says "chicken and lamb" combo is what we call the shwarma platter -- the side dishes sound correct, and you do get the bread like that. And the price is about what it was in September when we got it.

It really wasn't served as a "sandwich" -- the hunk of bread was there, and it was similar in taste & texture to a puffy pita bread...like a cross between italian bread & pita bread. Hard to describe. But the meat was actually in a pile next to the bread, not in it.

Oh, that's too bad. (If the updated menu is correct.) I had a copy of the old menu, and the sandwich was $2 cheaper than the platter - $9.99 vs $11.99 for chicken.
NOW, the chicken sandwich is $11.99. So they raised the price on the sandwich, and did away with the platter.:sad1:

but I think what's listed under shawarma sandwiches as "lamb & chicken" for $13.95 IS the platter...that certainly is the food that was on the platter in September. And the platter is $2.00 more than the chicken sandwich they're listing. My recollection of when we ordered this last September was that the cafe's actual menu did not call it a combo or a platter either -- when I asked for the lamb & chicken, we got everything listed below, plus the baklava & a soda (on the DDP)

From Allears.net:

"Shawarma Sandwiches- served with hummus, Tabouleh, and a Tangierine CousCous Salad with a Fresh Moroccan bread
Chicken & Lamb Combo $13.95
Chicken $11.95
Lamb $11.95"

And this was what used to be on the menu. (at least as of 9/2008) Sandwiches and platters were 2 separate categories.

Shawarma Sandwiches- served with hummus, marinated red onions, lettuce & tomato, with Taziki sauce. Chicken $9.95; Lamb $9.95; Falafel Sandwich $8.95

Shawarma Platters - served with side of hummus, tabbouleh and Tangierine CousCous salad with fresh Moroccan bread. Chicken & Lamb $13.95; Lamb $11.95; Chicken $11.95

Well, we'll be there in May, I'll check it out.:goodvibes

While there's lots of good info on the allears.net menus, we've found quite a few errors on them too. Hopefully the shawarma platter is still there.

I had a lamb shwarma platter on Fri. March 20. It was wonderful! We try to eat there every trip.

They had it, my girlfriend is up there now and she says they have it....I do not rely on allears menus...they are never updated and when they are they tend to leave alot of things off

I was looking at the menu and didn't see the falafel (sp?) on the menu either... any info on that? Maybe it is because I can't spell it. LOL

We were just there last month and had the shawarma platter twice...yummy!:)

I can't imagine they would have taken it off the menu, there were many people ordering it both times we were there.

We just had this last month. It was one of the best meals of our trip. Maybe it was just accidently left off the allears site.

Yum, my mouth is watering now.

Last trip I got the platter to go because DH and I were having Fiesta Margaritas and did not want to eat yet. Unfortunately, I left it on the bus.:headache:
I was so mad at myself and so disapointed.:sad2:I was really looking forward to that meal after looking at the pics here.
I will definately eat there next time to avoid any problems!

yep the meat with a cucumber sauce tastes like gyros. Bread is like a cross between a pita & italian bread.

They changed the chicken in this dish. It was disgusting when I had it in December( search old posts about it). The chicken is different than it has been in the past. It looked and tasted like a fabricated chicken thing...gross. was so upset as I use to love this dish:(

That has not been on the menu (online) for a while but they do have it, I ate it a few weeks ago
