Since flights are booking up I may look at Tampa as an alternate airport. How long would it take to drive from Tampa airport to WDW? Are there other airports they may work out also?

Tampa to WDW would take just about an hour give or take with traffic. Try Sanford as well...SFB That's the other airport in the area, about 40 min or so away

We did TPA just a few weeks ago. Expect it to take 75-90 minutes from the airport to your WDW resort.

We flew into Tampa almost a month ago to go to WDW. It worked out great! The drive to our resort was 60-70 minutes and it was an easy, straight shot to Orlando on I-4. We saved a ton of money by flying into Tampa and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

DITTO! We did it too and it worked out GREAT! The ride was nice and scenic too. We got to see some of Florida that we had never seen before, having flown into Orlando sooo many times.

Thanks for the replies. I just secured a rental car from TPA-MCO and am about to change our flights. We had the LATE night flight into MCO and were going to use ME, but the thought of a) not getting luggage until next morning and b) losing almost a whole day of vacation by leaving late has made me think twice.

My husband's work schedule just changed so he now has the whole day off on the day we are leaving and said go for it...book the earliest flight out so we can have that day to start vacation. Got to love him! :cool1:

So what is the scenery between TPA and WDW? And is there a toll on I 4?

no tolls on I4...........as for scenery...palm trees

have a safe trip!

We have done this many times. One trip, we did a last minute one when my parents were already there, we flew into TPA, because it was a lot cheaper. Drove to MCO and picked up my parents as they were walking outside. Our flights left about an hour apart from each other and if it worked out, great, if not, no biggie..they would have taken a cab to their townhouse (5 minutes from airport). When they landed we were hitting kissimee, so it was perfect timing, including picking up the rental car!!
