We're taking our older 2 on a cruise out of Tampa in April and I think we're going to try to take 2 days after the cruise to see Tampa, specifically Busch Gardens. The kids are DD17 & DS24 and they are HUGE coaster fans. DH & I, not so much, but we would enjoy the surroundings I think.

Anybody have good ideas for hotels in that area? My understanding is that Busch Gardens is pretty far from the port, so we'll need separate hotel ressies. Where do we park our car while we're on the cruise? At the port? At a hotel?

I feel so inadequate to this. If I was planning a trip to WDW i'd be all over this. :upsidedow

I know there are some hotels that do park and ride to the port, if you stay at their hotel. Tampa really is not that big so I think you would be able to stay at the same hotel and get to Busch gardens just fine.

Yes, BG is pretty far from the port. I would park at the port. There are parking garages there.

As for the hotel, we stayed at the Clarion which is about 1-2 miles away from BG. I would stay there again.

You don't need to stay at different hotels! The port and Busch Gardens aren't that far apart. About a 25 minute drive.

IMO, I would stay at a hotel that provides transporation to the port and allows you to leave your car for the week at the hotel. If you prefer just to part at the port, I would still pick a hotel in a nicer area. The area around Busch Gardens is dumpy!

Okay, now this is the kind of info I need. I've never been to Tampa so all I have to go by is what's online. One of the reasons I was thinking about staying near BG is so that DH can go back to the room at mid-day for some rest. No need for eveyone to leave the park if he could just take a shuttle back to the hotel. But maybe we need to work out something different.:confused3

If you do decide to stay in that area, there are perfectly nice hotels to stay in. However, IMO, stay elsewhere and enjoy nicer parts of Tampa when you aren't at the park.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. :)
