Hey All

I have been really looking forward to the idea of going to see a Baseball match when we go over to Florida, and have my heart set on going to see them at home against the Yankees in May.

The single tickets have just come on sale there are a couple of charges that I am curious about.

The main one is the parking - You can buy it through ticketmaster (where you buy the tickets themselves) for $30 - Are they kidding? £20 for parking! Does anyone have any tips on cheaper ways to park there (or other ways to get there, we are staying on International Drive).

The other one is something called a 'convenience charge' of $5.50 per ticket, and this seems to be on top of the actual ticket price. Anyone know what this is?

Thanks

Try asking on the US Boards, there may be folks from Tampa who will give you the best places to park etc..

I'm sure we paid something like $10-$15 last time we went, it was Sept 2008, and that was for their own parking. There are huge parking lots all around the stadium. Also depending on which team you're going to see the Rays play will depend on how much time you need to allow, for example, we saw the Anaheim Angels, not much traffic, went to see the Red Sox, should have allowed more time, but we didn't miss anything fortunately.

You can't miss it either, it's right next to the Interstate, and car parking is well signposted, and the matrix boards are used for the big games.

Also if you don't want to drive all the way back to Orlando straight after the game, there is a nice little Fairfield Inn not far off the Howard Franklin Bridge about 15-20mins from the Stadium.

We go every year to games at Tropicana.

The Yankees are almost the home team as their minor league team plays in tampa, and many Floridians come from NY. So, game will sell out fast. Parking is two tier, for car poolers (we have 4 persons) it is FREE, but about 5min walk from the stadium. For payment (expensive) you get parking that is 2-3 min from Stadium. As you approach the stadium you will be passing loads of small lots with people waiving red flags, these are not the official stadium lots and are some distance from the entrance. As you get closer you will see police cars directing traffic and also see signs to parking.

My suggestion is arrive 3 HOURs before game time, that way you get close to stadium offical parking, and if you have a full car no costs. Go in as soon as stadium opens and enjoy the atmosphere (batting practice etc). If you get seats on 3rd base side you will be in the Yankee section, close to the players. If this is your first game try for seats close to field (most expensive). Talk to your neighbours and there is a 95% chance they will explain everything to you. If you are an old hand enjoy the day.

Leaving after the game is even easier as the cops close all roads to the stadum and traffic flows on both sides of the road away, takes less than 30min to empty 35 000 people and their cars!!!

Hope this helps.

Just wanted to share the excitement ........ catching our first game at the Yankee Stadium on the 25th July (NYY v Seattle Mariners) :cool1::cool1::cool1: Dont need to worry about parking though because we're hoping to take the subway from Manhattan
