Hello,

Wonder if someone can help us make a decision. We are at WDW the last 2 weeks of July and quite like the odd game of baseball. We are thinking of going to Tampa to watch the Rays play the Red Sox, but reading up on the Rays, it seems their home stadium is really outdated and a poor experience (indoors, in need of rehab etc). Anyone got any any first hand experience or advice?

Thank-you
Andy

We went to a game in May at Tropicana park and compared to other MLB parks, I would agree that it was not the greatest place to watch a game. It is pretty blah - but they have made some improvements that make it a little better. You can now walk all around the field and even stand up in the outfield to watch the game if you wish. We purchased parking before we went, but it seemed like there was plenty of parking. Nothing around the area, however, that I found. My husband and I are doing a multi-year tour of all the MLB parks and we have been to 16 so far. This would rank in the bottom group as far as I'm concerned- BUT - that being said - if you want to see a baseball game, it is the most convenient. I personally don't like indoor stadiums - it defeats the purpose of spending a nice summer night at the ballpark.

We went two years ago - we have friends who live in Clearwater and they took us. It was OK, but because there was a group of us, it was probably more fun than going on our own.

The parking was good, across the road is a great bar called Taps and Tequila where we had some good drinks and snacks.

The Rays were playing the Orioles that night and there were lots of empty seats, not sure if it would be the same for the Sox game, especially as the Rays clean swept them recently and would be looking to do the same next series.

I haven't been to the stadium, so I can't help you there. It doesn't look like much on TV, in comparison to some of the beautiful outdoor parks. I'm from Pittsburgh, so I'm partial to PNC Park myself.

We are considering a trip to a Rays game as well in 2015. I did receive advice that Yankees and Red Sox games tend to sell out because of the popularity of those clubs, so travel and parking can be quite challenging. If you are able to choose a different opponent, that might make your trip easier.
