For those who have tried it, would you think it's tame enough for little girls as young as 6 or 7? What is the ride like? Just trying to plan our itinerary at Epcot. We've never done Mission Space, either version.

Yes, I think it would be fine for them (as long as they don't get clostraphobic.) The way the ride is set up you are in a somewhat small space, I think that would really be the only issue with the "Green Team" version of the ride. The tamer version has the same video as the original version and the capsule still tilts forward and backward to signify light off and such, there is still shaking and jolting, it just doesn't spin so you don't get that "motion sickness from it". I have done both versions... The original made me kinda quezzy but I loved the tamer version.

If you think of the tamer version as a BOAT:

And at the closing of the day
She loosed the chain, and down she lay;
The broad stream bore her far away,
The Lady of Shalott.

Does that mean anything to you ?

;)

So which is the tamer version--the part when the boat floats or the part when it leaks and capsizes?

I figured with your screen name you'd "get it".

Sorry about your red hair...

It is my lifelong sorrow... But I won't let it get me into the depths of despair because we're going to Disneyworld! ;)

But really, what did you mean by quoting Lady of Shalott? The calm, floaty ride or the leaky, capsized part? Because how tame the ride is depends on whether I let the little ones ride Mission Space... or let "my Gil" ride it alone... :lmao: (I think I'm going overboard here...)

The calm version is not any worse than riding in a car making turns on the highway.
Its really a "mind game" kind of thing. The video on the screen, the sound effects, and the tilting of the angle of the "capsule" can make you think things are a bit stronger than they actually are.

Give it a try.
Its not a "thrill ride" without the spinning centrifuge, so no "capsized leaky boat" on the tame side.

"Gil" might even like the "REAL DEAL" side... I certainly do.

Although Rachel Lind might call it "sinfully violent" (...we all know how she exaggerates what she hears.)

We were there in June and my six year old dd rode it and came off saying, "that was AWESOME!" She rode it with my husband and had a ball. She did the tamer version, and wanted to do it again as soon as she got off. We returned to Epcot two days later and that was the first thing she wanted to do.

Hope this helps! Have a great trip.

So three people so far say the tame version is safe for little kids. Thanks for your feedback. The more people assure me, the better I'll feel. I've just been reading all these stories about people dying and getting sick from the original Mission Space, and I was considering skipping it altogether.

LOL, well, I'll make sure to take everything that "sour old gossip" says with a grain of salt. Anyway, I doubt that I'll run into her in the Canada section of Epcot.

Robo, for a guy, I think it's neat that you know so much about Anne. How so?

(Edited because I can't spell)

I think your kids will be just fine. Do remind them to follow the instructions and always look straight ahead - and don't turn your head around either. You'll get vertigo.

As a former pilot I was amazed by Disney's attention to detail in building the simulator. The correct type of mil grade switches and buttons were used, and even switch guards were in place. You interact with mission control and have specific tasks to do during your trip. You and your daughters should have a great time. It has got to be the best ride I've ever been on in my life. Aside from doing aerobatics in a sailplane.

My DW and I rode MS during the soft opening when the G-forces were much higher than they are now. Its very clear we are in the minority in that we actually miss the more extreem version. I think back then about half the people who came off the ride were doing the technicolor yawn. But now the ride is fairly tame. And if that isn't enough, there is the version that doesn't spin at all, as one poster pointed out.

Ride and enjoy. Dream of doing it for real someday....

Since the tamer version doesn't spin, could a little one close their eyes if they got scared? Often times, like on Star Tours, taking away the visuals makes the ride feel much tamer. I know on the "real" version, closing your eyes is a sure way to get sick.

Thanks!

Actually I did see a lot of "Anne" stuff in Canada (Rachel Lind was notably absent).

I have never read any Anne books, but my wife and I love (LOVE is not too strong a word) the Kevin Sullivan "Anne of Green Gables" films.

They are so remarkable that I can visualize most scenes in my head.

Collen Dewhurst and Richard Farnsworth were TREASURES to watch on-screen.

I think Megan Follows was the perfect Anne.

We own Kevin Sullivan's "Avonlea" series on DVD as well (not QUITE as good as Anne, but still very entertaining.)

Say Hi to Diana Barry next time you get to PE Island.

I think Robo and anneofgreengables are "kindred spirits" and could become "bosom friends". :rotfl: However, a word of advice anneofgreengables - serve him raspberry cordial!

(Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I love those movies!)

It's one of my favorite movies! Looks like your wife got you to love this girly movie, just like I got my Gil to love it. It's usually the women who get the men into it. (Although I have a friend who got into Pride and Prejudice because her husband was a fan first, the other way around, LOL.)

I think it'd be safer to serve a plate of plum puffs.

I'm sure there are lots of kindred spirits on this board. People who love Disney for being wholesome and romantic and dreamy would probably like things like Anne, too.

I get vertigo very easily. If I stand on a balcony and look down, I'm dizzy. I also dread tight spaces, I'm very claustrophibic and I panic. I thought the non-spinning version of Mission Space was as tame as it gets. As long as your daughter is not severely claustrophobic, I would bet she would be fine.

Maybe others can offer the experiences their kids had. I would think she could close her eyes if she wanted to since there is no spinning.

Now those teacups - I cannot even watch people in them!! :rotfl:

My DS (6) loved the tame version of the ride. I found it similar to Star Tours.

I hope it helps.

I found it to be great. The original made me feel 'weird'. Not nauseous, no headache or anything, just 'weird' for about 5 minutes after. The greeem for me was fine, the experience. for me, was quite similar to the original, without the strange feeling afterward. If she did not like Star Tours, I would say a no to MS.

What is greeem?

I believe, Miss "with an 'e' ", that Dan meant "green".

The "green" side (and ticket that they issue at theM:S entrance) is for the "Green Team" and the "less-intense" version of the ride.
