Tallahassee to Orlando...alternate to I-75

Could I get some opinions on taking Rt. 19/27 to FL 44 to the FL Turnpike instead of I-10 to I-75? It looks shorter (shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line...) but what is the road like? Will we save any time? We're really looking to avoid the heavy traffic on I-75.

Stay off of 27. It's just a 55 mph (and less thru towns) road. We couldn't stand to go from Clermont to WDW because it was just one traffic light after another.
I'm dying to try the new 419 from the turnpike into the western edge of WDW property. It just opened in the last month or so.
You said you were wanting to avoid heavy traffic on 75? It's 3 lanes...just get in the middle and GO. Faster drivers can pass and you won't be trying to move over and back around exits.

If this is your first trip, just remember the exit to the sunshine toll road from I 75 is on the left.
