There is a Comfort Inn just down the road from the capital building in Tallahassee. I've stayed there several times. Nice, clean and reasonable.

You got so fortunate, that is such a high violent crime area .. the town has gotten so bad with drugs and violent crime it is a shame .. especially for parents that want their children safe in college .

I moved from Orlando to New Orleans a year ago, and I've made the drive back and forth A LOT. I highly recommend Marianna for your purposes--it's an hour or so west of Tallahassee, so you get there right before Panhandle fatigue really sets in, and it's a bit easier to make it to, especially with your child. It's the home of Florida Caverns (GREAT cave system), so it's reasonably well equipped as a small tourist town, but without all the traffic and hassle. We like the Comfort Inn there, though the Quality Inn and Fairfield are also fine. Not luxury by any means, but a clean and comfortable stopover with restaurants nearby and easy access on and off 10.

I live close to the Thomasville Rd exit of I 10. The Hampton Inn is nice, there is also a Residence Inn, a Hilton Garden Inn and a Courtyard at that exit. There are lots of restaurants, Panera, Outback, Steak and Shake, Texas Roadhouse, Carrabbas as well as your typical fast foods. You are north of downtown, far from the universities and it is a nice, safe area.

We've stayed in that area a few times and found it awful for getting on and off the interstate. As a resident of the area, it might not bother you as much, but as a traveler it is not good. Even though there are a lot of hotels and food sources. The roads in that area make it tough to get around easily. Unless you walk to your evening dinner from your hotel.

It always seemed nice to us. Whenever we drive we always get off there to eat or get gas. We have just never stayed there overnight. Thank you!

Lol! That’s why I recall what exit it is. We have gotten turned around many times around there.
