Hi disBoarders! I am a 6’4” husband who has pushed my wife in a Disney rented wheelchair a few times while visiting the parks. Happily this is a short term concern. After her foot surgery I shouldn’t have to do this anymore. Here is my question:

it is extremely uncomfortable to push her with the handles as low as they are. After a day in the parks my back is on fire. We have an upcoming trip and I found an attachment that raises the handles to a level that a guy my height is comfortable with.

Has anyone had this issue? Will they let me in the parks with the attachment? Who do I call to find out?
Any info would be appreciated! You guys are an amazing resource.

I have used similar extenders in the past and they worked great. I don't think Disney would have a problem, but you can contact their Disability Services department and ask them. Phone is (407) 560-2547 or send an email to disability.services@disneyparks.com

Disney wouldn’t care about the extenders, so I don’t think contacting them would do anything.
But, if you are renting a wheelchair, the wheelchair company might have some concerns about whether the extension might damage their wheelchair.
I’d suggest calling a couple of the rental companies and explain your dilemma and see what they can come up with

Just to clarify I am renting the wheelchair from Disney inside the park.

Ok
then it would be up to Disney whether they would allow it, but the phone or email to disability services may or may not give the same answer as in park

Another tall husband here (6' 6") pushing a wheelchair. I use a set of extenders i purchased from Amazon. They raise the handles about 8 inches, and attach easily to any wheelchair without damage. Used them with both Disney wheelchairs and wheelchairs from two different off site rental companies. No one had a problem with me using them.

They cost about $50 of I remember correctly. Well worth the $$ for the pain it saves my back. For me, I wish they were even a tad higher, but I don't think they can get much higher and still be structurally sound for maneuvering the chair.

You won't regret using them.

Steve
