Talking Mickey!

This is interesting, because I remember back when the articulated heads first debuted in WDW shows, people were speculating if and when the technology would ever come to the meet and greet versions of the characters. Some people were saying it would be a long way off because the heads make a 'mechanical' sound that is only suited to shows seen from a distance and drowned out by the show's audio, and would not work in a more intimate setting. Either they were totally wrong, or Disney made some big advancements in technology in a short amount of time! Three cheers for innovation! :cheer2:

i want them all to talk lol.. i also wish they would create a small tinkerbell like they did with Remy and the French restaraunt in Disneyworld.

No doubt, i like how all the characters are to a scale. But only some are big some are small. But I do wish some that are really tiny like Tink wouldn't be 5 feet tall even that is the smallest in the park.

If only we could train 6 year olds to do the work. Like in china.

I just don't want to explain why Mickey is talking now but hasn't uttered a peep during our last 15 trips. :rotfl:

Very interesting and cool technology. Am I the only one that kinda finds it the slightest bit creepy? Having some big plastic head talking is kinda odd. When I was a little kid I think that would make me freak out.

And the idea of a 6' mouse walking around doesn't seem creepy? LOL:rotfl2:

Well maybe since we went there expecting to see a six foot tall mouse it didn't creep us out. Who knows, maybe todays kids will expect them to talk and it won't creep them out. When I was like, 8 at Star Tours in WDW an Ewok stepped on my shoelace and terrified me. I can only imagine what my reaction would be if he started talking all "yub yub" at me like Ewoks do.

I think that's pretty neat! I don't speak pantomime very well so I think I'd like a talking Mickey better than a silent one. As a small child I did prefer silent characters, though, so who knows? The child in the video did seem slight intimidated to me.

Ok this totally did not creep me out in the least, in fact I really hope to encounter this Mickey on our upcoming trip:yay: When ds7 saw the video he nearly flipped his kazoo when Mickey blinked his eyes;)

wow.....wow....wow....wow.....wow.....It's really Mickey! We have to see this in July. Please, oh please, may the real Mickey be there in July.

This is so very cool! Are they accually doing this now? We'll be there on Sat and my DGD3 would love this!

Wow...that is....HYP-NO-tizing and MEZ-MER-izing! And I'm an adult...I can only imagine how cool that would seem to a little kid! (Well, not a kid who's scared of Characters even when they DON'T talk...) Thanks for posting this!

It turns out that Disney filed the patent for this technology way back in 1994.

Funny... I wonder what "Technology' they are waiting for to be able to put this into action. Kind of like James Cameron with his Avatar movie. He had that movie written well before Titanic even came out. He was just waiting for better graphics and technology to come out before actually producing it. So if Disney has had this patent since 1994 (And obviously before then they had the time to develop it) at the very least that is 16 years of waiting. That's quite scary actually.

Man, I hope this is out when I'm there in a week and a half. I love that there's almost always something new to see at Disneyland every time I go.

I was just reading the DPBlog and the Blogwriter mentions a couple times in the comments section that this will not be there next week and that it is a ways off from being implemented in the parks. :( boohoo

I can't wait to see it in person! They better have this as an everyday thing when I go back in January! :yay: I am too excited!
