Talking Mickey!

OK this looks incredible. They need to have more of this. With the technology now days, they should have all characters talking I think.... well at least the ones who have real bodies and plastic heads :rotfl: It would be weird for characters like Winnie the Pooh to talk, but I am sure at that they could figure something out.

It is amazing!! Gave me goosebumps to see it!! Such a gentleman introducing himself!!

Wow! When did the talking Mickey get there? He wasn't there in October.

Oh Wow!! Last year when I visited the news was that they were working on a new head for the stage shows so it looked like they were singing and talking along to the soundtrack.
I never imagined they would do it for character meets
I am soooo impressed!!
This is one of the reasons why I love Disney:thumbsup2
thanks for this great video

I could see this causing problems. It might make it hard for some kids if Mickey "talks" to them in one park location and not in another. Plus you'll have the why didn't that character talk to me, Mickey did. It might be better without the talking. JMHO. It was very cool though. :)

I just saw this on another site. I love it!! :goodvibes
I really like that his face moves too :) it's always been hard to tell my kids (when they were little)lol that the characters dont talk. I am so
excited for DGD that she may never have to wonder about that :) here's hoping that it will be wide sweeping and other fuzzy characters can get voices too. :woohoo: this will keep the magic going for little kids :wizard: a bit longer and me too :thumbsup2

That is so cool! I could just see my little one being talked to by Mickey, he'd be so excited. I'm going to be definitely keeping my eye out for this and having my video camera ready when we hang out at Mickey's house. :thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing!!

Very interesting and cool technology. Am I the only one that kinda finds it the slightest bit creepy? Having some big plastic head talking is kinda odd. When I was a little kid I think that would make me freak out.

 I can totally see your point of view.

My 3 year-old would love it though. :) He is still at that age where he believes they're the real deal.

I have another link which includes the same video.

http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney...atting-guests-disneylands-toontown-literally/

In the link it explains that the costume uses the same technology that is used in the" Dream along with Mickey" show at WDW. It is done a few times a day a permanment stage in front of Cinderella's Castle.

This is just a random link showing part of the show. Does not have the moving face. I saw this show in Febuary and it did not notice it. But I did see another video from a couple weeks before my trip that included it.

Here's with the new faces.

I wonder if this is going full time or just a test run. I have some questions for Mickey that I've been dying to ask.

It never seemed wierd to see giant characters with even bigger heads?

I don't think it will be anymore scary for anyone that wasn't scared before.

Someone beat me to it!
Was just about to post this.
It is a test run supposedly but will start incorporating it soon.
It uses similar technology to turtle talk with crush or technology that they use with larger animatronic Muppets. Someone sits out of view with their hand in the animatronic puppet sock and a mic and talks while moving their hand. The remote sensors in the mask move the features and the voice comes out. If you've ever seen the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltle movies its the same thing (I use that as a reference because my son is wearing out that movie currently).
Ooo ooo or the large Muppet called "Sweetums" I believe.

Oh, I disagree. This would have scared the CRAP out of me as a kid...I remember being completely freaked out by IASM when I was about two or three, and a giant faced talking Mickey would have sent me over the edge.

My 10 year old daughter only likes to pose with non-face characters even still because they don't talk. It's great technology, but I think I prefer the old school, silent Mickey. :goodvibes

Ok that is really cool. I hope when I finally have kids they won't be scared of him! HAHA

:rotfl:

Can you imagine the questions he will get asked?!

What I want to know is how this all works. If its a remote person operating the mouth and doing the speech, how does the person in the suit know how to move and what gestures to make, etc. I would have to guess the person in the suit controls what to say.

Good questions about how it works. I wonder where the audio comes from, a speaker in the wall of in the costume?

It's hard to say in the video, how real the setup, circumstances are. Who knew if they knew the name before hand? The rest of the dialogue is pretty generic.

I agree it's a lot like how crush, Roz and Mr. Potatohead work. They take simple ways to address people, like color of the shirt. And the questions they ask or answers they give are along pretty simple lines.
