Talking Mickey (when does he actually talk?)

We went to see "talking" Mickey Friday as one of our FP's. I was really excited to see my kids experience this. However, when we saw him, he didn't talk. He didn't even blink. Is it just random chance to get to see the talking aspect to this meet? Has anyone asked before hand if he is talking or not? I would like to experience it, but I don't want to use another FP on it if its just going to be a normal M&G.

He talks all the time. Unless he doesn't. When he doesn't, it means he's malfunctioning that day. Unfortunately, no way to know beforehand if it's a bad day for talking, or not.
We've gone many times and never been unlucky enough to get non talking Mickey. I think he works most of the time but you can't predict technology

If Mickey didn’t blink, that means Mickey was just regular Mickey and there were either technical problems with Talking Mickey or Mickey’s CM friend became injured and regular Mickey had to step in. Mickey’s CM friends cannot ‘share’ so there had to have been a few technical problems or lots of injuries that day.

You can always ask ahead of time so that you don’t have to enter the line. The CM who loads guests into the room can also tell you if Mickey has his voice.

FWIW: The CM at the beginning of the line does not “normally know” when Mickey has lost his voice or not.

One time I was there during the afternoon parade and the indoor Mickey didn't talk.
