Talking Mickey Saving His Voice?

I visited Talking Mickey via FP+ on December 14. He was "saving his voice."
Big disappointment. I think this was the 4th time I visited him, but first time this happened.
Is this common? If I went back later in the day, would the system be back on line?

He was talking the night of the 18th. It was the first time I'd ever seen it - had actually forgotten even reading about it until we walked in and my jaw dropped. One of the little girls in the group in front of us was so excited it verged on crying. Poor talking Mickey wasn't certain what to do and the handler even commented he'd never ever seen a reaction quite like that!

We took our 2 year old grandson to see talking Mickey two weeks ago. Our GS was on the verge of having a two year old melt down in the middle in the floor when the door opened and Mickey was there talking to him. The meltdown stopped instantly! Our little fellow was definitely starstruck as were the rest of us! Very cool!

We went on the 15th and he was talking but it seemed like a more limited set of responses or a inexperienced operator. My daughter talked to him and the responses weren't really in the context of what she was asking and usually they are.

For us, saving his voice, has happened ALOT. I say 50/50. One time with FP+ and I complained. I wasted my FP+ as we had already met Mickey. I told them I get that he is not advertised as such but they should let folks know before they go in so if they don't want to waste a FP+ they can change it.

It's just a random thing. I guess the tech is glitchy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No way to know in advance if it's glitching or not glitching

In my experience, I would guess he doesn't carry on a regular conversation, it's all preprogrammed responses and an operator somewhere picks what it will be? Or
Mickey has a button somewhere?

If talking Mickey is 100% what you want you can ask the handlers if Mickey's voice is well today or if he is saving it so only meeting. When talking Mickey first rolled out some CMs didn't get it but now they should.

They are pretty hush hush on exactly how it works (and who controls it) but it is preprogrammed without question. Just like KyloRen. Neither have real conversations

I asked a CM as we were waiting this time, if we could arrange for Mickey to tell my son to stop sucking his thumb (willing to try anything!). The CM said if we asked our question carefully, we would get an affirmative response. Then when we were in there, my daughter asked where Pluto was, and Mickey said Pluto was outside in front of the Christmas Tree.

I've never encountered this.... we've probably done talking Mickey a dozen times this year!

By pre-programmed it means they are recorded responses. They have control over what responses are used but they do not speak in a true sense of the word. That's why the CM said you had to form your question carefully and you would get an affirmative response. If it was true speaking it wouldn't matter how you posed the question, they'd be able to answer.

We met talking Mickey on our first visit to Magic Kingdom 2 days ago he was our first stop. He was amazing our 7 year old daughter had Mickey sing her the birthday song for her birthday. He even asked her how old she was. It blew my mind how awesome he was. The little girl in front of us asked how Mickey talks and the cast member said how do you talk? (in a nice way of course) she said Mickey is just like you. Was definitely a great memory for us and the cast member videod our visit with Mickey when I gave her my phone to take photos of us with mickey along with the photo pass which I thought was lovely.
Im glad you have experienced talking Mickey before it was just unfortunate that his voice had disappeared on your latest visit.

The responses are preprogrammed (as opposed to someone speaking them live). But the operator is very GOOD...or at least was when we were there. The couple in front of us were from Japan and the line CM struck up a conversation with them about where they were from, and they responded a bit in broken English. When it was their turn the handler said "Hey Mickey! These friends came to visit you ALLLLL the way from JAPAN!" to which Mickey enthusiastically said "Wow, that's great...I've been practicing my Japanese..let me see if I've got this right...." and proceeded to speak to them in Japanese. The couple were awestruck. It was super cute.

When we saw Mickey last month, our 45 minute wait turned into 1 1/2 hours and we later found out it was because of a technical difficulty with the voice box.

He was amazing and I thought it was someone speaking into a voice box. He answered my kids questions perfectly.

Talking Mickey has a complete team helping him respond to questions. If his voice becomes disabled, guests then meet mute Mickey.

For your wait to have become twice as long, there had to have been meeting rooms downed based on mute Mickeys not being available.
