Talking Mickey appears again.

Hmmm, I didn't see the outdoor Mickey blinking.
Very cool.
Now if the eyes moved that would be crazy.

Have you not seen this before?

Better study up, because this isn't the first use of this technology, in fact it's used in show that are currently running at DLR and WDW.

And on Disney Cruises. In the newest show they have Baloo talking and blinking. Its no longer about the bare necessities.

maybe im missing something here, but in shows the voice is pre-recorded by one of the few who can do the voice accurately - so the voice isnt actually coming from the CM or the head at all.

With these new Mickey's however, the voice is somehow created in real-time by technology in the head so the CM can interact with guests using an accurate Mickey voice? isnt that the key feature of the technology? so its not the same as used in shows. :confused3

Exactly. A lot of folks confuse these two things. The voices in Dream Along with Mickey, or the one of Timon at Festival of The Lion King are pre-recorded, and I guess the same goes for Baloo on the Dream.

Mickey's voice is indeed "live". StitchKingdom.com has an interesting post published in May 2010 explaining how it works - including a link to a patent filed by Disney.

This technology incorporates two things.

One is the translation of voice. The other is the synchronization of audio and dynamic facial features.

Without peanut butter or without jelly there are no peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches.

I don't think anyone is really surprised by the more frequent appearances of these characters. This is the last link to the complete experience that Disney has been trying to develop since Disneyland opened. The Characters talking takes away that last bit of doubt and question that any child may have, and gives the adults even more opportunity to suspend disbelief. It should be interesting to see how long it takes until these are regular features on all Costumes and not just special versions of Mickey or a select few others.

I've heard about this, but those videos were my first time actually seeing talking Mickey in action. It's a little surreal at first, but quite interesting. As the above poster noted, it will be interesting to see how many characters will also change over to talking characters in the next several years.

Its not just in the parks, if you go to any of the disney live shows all the nonface characters have this type of head on, I went to Mickeys Rocking Roadshow last year, and all the fab 4 and tigger were speaking and blinking.

Strangely Disney on Ice has not used these heads, maybe their too heavy to skate in.

As early as Friday with the opening of the new meet and greet location. (rumor)

I would be shocked if it were that soon. He's not even a regular at DL yet.

But I think this is amazing. I cant believe some people wouldn't love this idea. This really makes it that much more real. We always talk about how Walt wanted it to be a different world and how Disney is straying away from that. But when I see this it makes me think Walt would be more than pleased if he could've done this. To me this is huge because think of some child on their first visit to Disney getting to have a conversation with their favorite mouse. I would kill to have that experience.

Myself and a few friends are thinking this is the reason for the FP for Mickey
