Talk to me about SSR 1 bedroom villas

Why are they so much cheaper (paying cash per night) than 1 bedroom villas elsewhere? Is it hard to get from SSR to the parks? I'm looking at a longer stay (like a week) and want a washer/dryer. There will be three of us so I think a 1br is adequate. A 1 br at SSR is cheaper than two rooms at, for example, Caribbean. What am I missing?

Thanks!

P.

The resort is quite spread out (similar to OKW) with the primary doors to access rooms on the outside of the building (instead of via a hallway). Then your only option to get to the parks is via bus. Bus timing is similar to any other resort bus. That's mostly it.

The remodeled rooms are actually quite lovely and the walk to Disney Springs is easy IF you're on that side of the resort.

As stated above the only real downsides to the resort is the internal bus loop/bus only transportation and how spread out the resort is. Preferred 1BR in Congress Park at SSR is one of my favorite DVC areas anywhere. The proximity to Disney Springs and the shopping/dining that provides is unmatched. The rooms themselves are great. If you do end up getting a standard 1BR the general consensus seems to be that the Carousel is most people's least favorite area because of how far it is from everything else.

SSR has mor 1 bedrooms than any other DVC. They are almost available all year long. The buses are similar to CBR, SSR has 5 bus stops. The rooms are very nice. Disney can rent rooms that are available 60 days out or less and keep all the money they make.

I suspect there is a lot of unbooked one bedroom inventory at SSR. These are some of the most prevalent units that get deposited into Interval International. So with so much excess supply, it pushes prices down.

While the only to the park transportation option is buses, the resort is very centrally located to all 4 parks so the travel time is not long at all.

I know SSR is spread out, but I find it easier to walk around than OKW and even CBR to an extent. The buses don’t have to turn around or go around a circle every time they stop like at OKW, so the internal loop is actually pretty swift.

When traveling with a group, it’s really nice to have a gathering space (no one has to sit on a bed when hanging out in the room), kitchen, balcony, and laundry. That’s what the one bedroom gets you over two rooms at CBR. I’d choose a one bedroom at SSR or OKW in a heartbeat over two rooms at CBR.

SSR had a rough reputation from when it opened with 1 feature pool, unacceptable QS, impractical and stylishly dull rooms, and a dying Pleasure Island across the way.

Now it has 2 feature pools, 3 splash pads, 3 full QS options (plus pool bars) plus 50 more restaurants a walk away, a thriving Disney Springs nearby, and some of the best rooms on property.

But reputations are hard to shake. Even when they’re no longer deserved.

Shhhh,,,,lets keep that rep,,,,I like being able to book at my home whenever needed,,,close walk to the clubhouse as well.

For what it matters, a lot of Disney resorts have laundry. Like Dolphin and Art of Animation. It's group style coin laundry, but that might be enough.

I would never usually recommend 1Br as at most resorts (cough cough VGF /RR) it is a huge waste of points ( it can be 1,000 in MF alone) and unless you have 4 or more it is sometimes cheaper and more vacation like to eat out. Now some simply don't care and want the luxury.

But ... SSR/OKW/BW 1 br are not that huge of a jump and they are very nice. Probably the only ones I would book.

When I was using the group laundry in VGF there were some people in 1 br using the group laundry ( free in DVC) since they are commercial dryers and work 10x better than the in room combo units in the humid months. I can dry 2 pairs of mens jeans in one 33 min cycle. Same machines at Swan and Dolphin and they are only $3 per dry / $3 per wash way cheaper than flying with an extra suitcase on some airlines.

We prefer OKW to SSR for the atmosphere, walking around, shade and such, but since the remodel of SSR with the pull down beds, we have found that SSR rooms are actually better. Wife and I get the master, daughter gets the big pull down and grandtinker gets the little pulldown. Keeps them off of the pull out couch at OKW. We still go to OKW to visit each trip though as the Gurgling Suitcase calls my name anytime I cross the Florida line.
