With all our various trips we have never eaten at Akershus before but my 2 almost 3 year old is a huge princess fan so we felt this was a must this trip.

What do you recommend getting as the entree for DH and myself?

Also we are going with 2 girls under 3 (one will turn three the month after the trip and the other turns 1 on the trip). I know when we went to Ohana etc they offered my DD who was 15 months at the time a children's meal. Can anyone tell me how this one works since it isn't a real buffet or served family style - will they offer them a children's meal or offer them pasta (worried b/c she doesn't eat pasta and I saw that they offer under 3 pasta at Cinderella's castle).

We were there on Wed night and loved it. My husband and mom had the dumplings and said it was like a slightly spicy meatloaf. My dad and I had the salmon and it was awesome! My son had the ravioli and I was happy to see something other than chicken nuggets on the menu. But, they do have other options for the kids. I don't think you can go wrong there.

Grilled Chicken Breast - served with corn and boiled potatoes

Cheese Ravioli and Meatballs - served with tomato sauce

Pizza - with mozzarella

Hot Dog - with corn

I don't have any children, so not able to comment on the children's meals.. As for the menu, we had the Traditional Kjottkake and the Grilled Pork Chop and both were quite good from what I remember. Although the desserts were the best part of the whole meal! ;)

Akershus is the BEST! We loved it and it was NOT a buffet! However, they did have a meat/cheese misc buffet to get you started, but then you have a menu to order off of for your main course. For others that read this, ff you are a large party, they fit the 12 of us all at 1 table.

When you first arrive, you get your group picture taken with a princess and once you are seated they work their way around the room. They also stay in character, so be sure to challenge them. Snow White was awesome - she did such a great job staying in character.

Dinner Menu: (per allears.net)
Mustard-glazed Seared Salmon - with Roasted Carrots and Potatoes and Mustard-Shallot Drizzle
Sautéed Chicken Breast - served with fresh Vegetable Barley Risotto and Herb Chicken Jus
Traditional Kjottkake - Ground Beef and Pork Dumplings served with Mashed Potatoes, seasonal Vegetables, and Lingonberry Sauce
Grilled Vegetable-stuffed Pasta - with Sautéed Vegetables, Tomato-Truffle Broth, and Shaved Parmesan
Citrus-marinated Mahi Mahi - with Mashed Potatoes, Arugula, and Mushroom Vinaigrette
Grilled Pork Chop - with Potato Gratin, Apple-Raisin Chutney, and Demi-glace
Seared Herb-dusted Beef Tips - with seasonal Vegetables in a Mustard Brandy Sauce

I had the Salmon and my wife had the Mahi Mahi and were both good. I am trying to reacall what everyone else ordered, but there were no complaints about the food.

Kids Menu:
Grilled Chicken Breast - served with corn and boiled potatoes
Cheese Ravioli and Meatballs - served with tomato sauce
Pizza - with mozzarella
Hot Dog - with corn

Here are some pictures to tease you with. You will not be let down with this place. Skol! (Scandinavian toast like saying cheers)

We love Akershus. We do it every year even though we only have a 3 year old DS. I like to say that it has the best of everything:
1) Picture with Princess included with the meal price (Belle for the last 3 times we went)
2) Cold buffet with cheeses, meats, and salads. My DS really enjoys all of the food.
3) Entree selection for everyone in the party. My DH always gets the traditional Kjottkake and I have had the salmon. My DS has had the hot dog and pizza. They are pretty standard children's meals.
4) The desserts are family style and always yummy. I only remember 2 of the 3 (chocolate mousse cake and rice pudding).
5) Princess interaction.

When my son wasn't on the dining plan because he was too young, he ate food off my buffet plate. The CM let him select a children's meal. ;)

I think if your kids like princesses they will like Akershus. I wasn't blown away by it, but by no means was it a "bad" meal, and the princesses were great. Not long after one left your table would another show up! I got the salmon with mustard sauce and it actually was pretty tasty. The buffet was OK - not very extensive. They had some nice grilled asparagus. Compared to "theme park" food, it was really good. Compared to the rest of epcot, it wasn't great.

re: kids' meal. When we went, my DD was 2 and the rest of us were on the DDP. I ordered a kids meal for her (mickey ravioli - she had 1 ravioli, but that's not unusual - when you look up "light eater" in the dictionary her picture shows up). I'm pretty sure I was not charged for it. I think it is complimentary for kids under 3. There were like three choices for meals - I can't remember what the other choices were, but if you look up allears menus, you will see the options.

Well once upon a time in a far away land sorry couldn't resist :rotfl:

We went last Sept. with my DS 8, DD7 and DD3. The princesses were wonderful, got a gorgeous photo of the girls with Belle. Saw 5 princesses total, really, a great character meal.

However, we weren't fond of the food, in fact, my husband made me promise that I would not book this for our upcoming Sept. trip (I was tempted just for the princesses). The appetizer buffet was okay, really not very much to choose from, but okay. My husband did not enjoy his entree (he had that Norwegian meatloaf thing). however, I did enjoy the salmon. I thought the kids meals were terrible. They brought my DS8 out this tiny little burned pizza. As soon as we left the restaurant, I had to go out to a counter service and get him dinner. But, you won't have that problem with such little ones.

It's worth it for the princesses, but I wouldn't go there just for the food. Just my opinion.

I've enjoyed the pork chop and my husband said his mahi mahi was OK. DD loves the Mickey cheese ravioli and on both our visits I was able to order ds1 milk and his own entree from the children's menu (grilled chicken, huge portion) at no additional cost.
