I currently have TS reservations for Ohana's (1 TS) and Narcoossee's (2 TS). As we are only staying 3 nights, these two restaurants knock out our TS credits. I'm second guessing this plan, thinking that we should have 3 TS meals instead of only 2. DH really likes Ohana's and DD really likes Whispering Canyon. I'm stuck on the 3rd one. It probably needs to be a resort restaurant because we're leaving it up to the kids (this is a surprise trip) which parks we'll go to so I won't be able to make any dining reservations inside the parks. We've never tried Boma and we've never seen the AK Lodge either. Can some of you share what kind of experience we would have there in terms of atmosphere, food, etc.?

The AKL is a beautiful resort. Since you have never been there I would go and see it for yourself. We have stayed at the lodge twice and loved it. In fact we just bought into AKV. As for Boma it is our favorite buffet at WDW. In fact it is the only buffet we care to eat at. The choice of different foods is what we really love about it. There soups are the best of anyplace at Disney. If you go make sure to spend sometime outside seeing the animals.

I have a breakfast ADR for Boma - should I also get one for dinner? I don't mind doing buffets - there's always something for someone - but I also don't want to miss out on a really good one, KWIM?

Thanks, Ron. My son, in particular, I think would really enjoying seeing AK Lodge. He even suggested the other day that we forego our May '09 trip to save up some extra money and go in May '10 instead and celebrate his high school graduation by staying at AK Lodge. Is it fairly easy to see the animals or do you have to fight crowds in order to get a glimpse? Also, did I read something about nighttime goggles for viewing after dark?

It's easy to see the animals; all you have to do is walk through the amazing lobby and out the back door. There's a large viewing area with CMs who can talk to you about the animals, and there are night vision goggles available (somehwere else, I think) after dark. As for Boma, it's fantastic, my favorite restaurant at WDW. I'm a pretty picky eater - you could safely describe me as a meat and potatoes type - and Boma is right up my alley.

I think Boma is worth a try for everyone. AKL is beautiful and I want to stay there so badly. We will try Boma for breakfast the next time that we go. The dinner buffet just wasn't our cup of tea. We love exotic foods and I love bold spices so I was able to enjoy Boma more than the rest of my family. We will be back though because breakfast sounds delish!

I absolutely love Boma, the food, especially the soups, are great. Its absolutely terrific. make sure you have time to walk around the hotel a bit particularly the savannah outside

We have had Boma for breakfast a few times. It has always been wonderful. The foods are a bit different so if you have picky eaters it is more difficult to find foods they will try. The juice is wonderful...I dream of it. BUT we have also eaten at Narcoossee's and it is my fav restaurant in all of Disney World. It is a fairly small restaurant and therefore not nearly as crowded and loud. Service is wonderful. The view is beautiful and the food was the best!!! Whenever we have the chance we will return to Narcoosees! I had my birthday dinner there last year and it was the best birthday ever!

LOVE BOMA!!!

We ususally go at least twice when we're there even though we're not staying at AKL - which is beautiful. It is my favorite restaurant at WDW!!! The breakfast is great but dinner is amazing. Even my picky son enjoys himself and doesn't even bother to eat at the kids station (standard pasta, mac & cheese etc). You can even request the recipes from your waitress and they will email them to you. I've made 3 recipes and they were great. My son especially loves their Butternut Squash Soup and their banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce is just great. I'll be there next week and I can't wait!!

Thanks for all the replies! It seems that most DISers really love Boma, so I'm going to give it a go. I told my son and daughter that I was completing a survey for the Mickey Moms Club (half truth - I did do a survey, but it wasn't about dining!;) ) that asked what my family's favorite resort restaurants are at Disney. My daughter said Whispering Canyon and my son said Ohana's and Narcoossee's. As I said in my OP, I already have ressies for Ohana's our first night, so I'm going to cancel Narcoossee's (since we have eaten there before) and add Whispering Canyon and Boma. That way, son and daughter each get to eat at one of their favorites and we get to try something new!:woohoo:

 Boma's is our favorite too. Even my picky daughter loves it.
