Talk to me about Alaskan Sailings

We loved our late August DCL Alaska cruise for all the reasons mentioned above. But we did our strangest “excursion” ever while in Juneau. We hopped a shuttle to Costco so I could exchange our refund check. We were traveling from Korea and had to exchange it at a stateside store. Not the most exciting excursion, but it paid well!

I've only ever done 1 Disney cruise and it was out of Florida.

I'm thinking of doing the 8nt sailing in September 2023 but I am worried about a lot of rain.

Anyone have any experience with Alaska Sailings?
We are just wanting to do something different for our annual vacation - we are from Australia and typically do WDW or Disneyland.
We were on the first Alaska sailing in May this year so I can't comment on how it is in September, but for us, It was rainy in Vancouver and on the first sea day of the cruise. The rest of the time, the day time temp was in the mid to upper 60's low 70's on the port days. We didn't wear 95% of the cold weather clothing that we brought except for the day we stopped at Dawes Glacier, that was the only day that I wished I had my heavy jacket when I was out on the upper decks seeing the glacier (I left it in the room). Otherwise I was in shorts and t-shirts most days.

Alaska was very beautiful and while the wife was not sure she wanted to do an Alaska Cruise, she is glad that we went. She really enjoyed Vancouver (we were there 2 days before and due to the Airlines 2 days after the cruise).

We live in North Vancouver. Similar weather. It generally doesn’t stop us from doing anything. Wear layers and good quality outer waterproof breatherable layer, and decent boots if you’re thinking of doing a hike. September is it and miss for weather. It can be beautiful , or cold and rainy. It won’t be hot.

The one thing I would tell you is to understand that Alaska cruises in general are a VERY different cruising experience. Although there's the sail-away party, the cruise itself is less about celebrations and music. When traveling through the channels, the PA must be turned off because of the wildlife, so there's no music, funnel-vision, etc during those times. There is a naturalist on board to share information about wildlife, and because of the chilly air, they serve things like hot soup (which was AMAZING) up on deck. The food is more specific to the regions which is terrific, and the themed events are different than the traditional Caribbean cruises. Like everyone said, we loved it, I just wanted you to know that the experience is really different.

Just waiting in the French Quarter Lounge to disembark, we had 3 port stops and it was sunny at every stop, Ketchikan was a gorgeous sunny warm day (proper shorts and tshirt afternoon).
I would go to Alaska again, its genuinely stunning. The shows on the Disney Cruise ship were very very good. I was surprised at how good the food was in the dining rooms and how attentive the staff were.
I would say ive never seen staff in restaurants and in general treated so rudely by customers as on DCL, the sense of entitlement and speaking to people in a dehumanising manner is utterly disgusting. I actually saw one guy clicking his fingers at one point.
