My little guy just turned 5 and he LOVES Dinosaurs.

The height restriction is only 40" on Dinosaur but it says it might be scary for kids? Can someone discuss?

Thanks!

It can be SCARY (and very rough) for LOTS of people.

Dinosaur is, by far, the ROUGHEST indoor ride at WDW.
(Space Mtn. is right in there, but not for ENTIRE ride!)

It's certainly "tied" for the absolute LOUDEST
bellowing sound effects.

It is actually designed to be "scary."
There is nothing that comes close in the category of
"Pitch-blackness...
then FULL-BRIGHT LIGHTS illuminating
GIANT DINOS with razor-sharp spiked teeth
LUNGING out straight AT YOU
with DEAFENING-ROAR sound effects."

Then,
more VIOLENT shaking,
jack-rabbit ACCELERATION,
sudden hard BRAKING...
and REPEAT.

All that said, I really ENJOY riding this attraction, and do so every trip.

Dinosaur is based on the same ride technology that is used on the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland.

Loud, animatronic dinosaurs, dark. If he'd be fine with that, he'll love it. It's a great ride

Okay thanks. Boo. I think we'll have to pass. My boy has autism - so it sounds like it will probable be too much for him.

Going to start out with the usual "you know your kid best", bit. Of course that's one thing. But personally, I think that Dino is a little scary for a five year old. This ain't no Dinosaur Train ride, this some serious Dino popping out from nowhere - carnivores and herbivores from nowhere, bumpy roads, flashes of thunder, the end of the world is coming and to top it off, a HUGE dino coming down to attack and eat you! I'm not five, but I am still a little terrified.

I would watch a youtube of it, and go from there. But, remember - this ain't Dinosaur Train. :)

I would think it would be too scary (as above had said .. it is DESIGNED to be scary)... but like anything scary .. they'll live and you just may have to deal with the fallout afterwards (whatever that may be).

I would pass and just do the other dino attractions in AK (Triceratops Spin and Primeval Whirl and the boneyard)

I would definitely pass but, when you ever decide to do it, take ear plugs. I wear them every time I go! I am a ride wimp and finally went on after passing it up several years. I used ear plugs and loved it! Definitely would have been too "scary" without them since the loudness adds to the scare-factor.

One of the worst "scenes" I ever witnessed at WDW was a young child who did not want to go on this ride and his dad was forcing him to go. Dad kept saying, "Oh, it'll be fun. It's a dinosaur ride." And the child was screaming at the top of his lungs. I didn't see the child after the ride, but I hope he made it through all right, and I hope Dad learned a lesson. This ride is not for the faint of heart--young or old.

It's loud, dark, bumpy, and some of the dinosaurs are frightening. That said, if it gets too intense he can always bury his head in a parents' lap which will mitigate most of the scare factor.

My 6 year old was terrified by this ride (and he loves dinosaurs too). I probably would recommend skipping it.

It's intense compared to other disney rides. The part where you get your picture taken always freaks me out, especially if I'm on that side of the car lol. It produces the best pictures though. Up there with tower of terror.

There are much nicer dinosaurs in the Ellen's Energy Adventure ride at Epcot. It's a long 45 minute ride with a nice dinosaur segment at the beginning. Basically they take you back to where fossil fuels got their start. I highly recommend you take a dino loving kid on this, providing they can handle the 45 minute ride. If he will watch documentaries (like on discovery channel) he just might enjoy the rest of the ride.

Ick. We'll never ride it again. We found it loud and way too bumpy/jerky and exactly as Robo described. All of us had headaches when we got off this one. My nephew who was 5 and also a big dinosaur lover was so mad at us for taking him on there! It's a shame because it could be such a fun ride if they smoothed it out just a bit and lowered the decibels of the roaring.

My 4 year old son loved this ride but my 5 year old daughter hated it. She wasn't screaming over it but she did get extra close to me and did NOT have fun.
Rest of my family enjoyed it though!
Maybe they have a YouTube video of the ride you could show him? It is pretty rough though and you can't feel that through the screen.... good luck!

My DS4 went on it for the first time this May. He closed his eyes right when it started and didn't open them until we got out of the car at the end. In the ride photo he is squeezing his eyes as tight as he can and hanging on for dear life to the restraint.

That is my wife in the back seat with her head down...every year she says she won't duck and hide...not this year either!

We skipped it with our boys on our first two visits because of the warnings of how scary it was. Last year they really wanted to ride it so we took them (they were 7 and 10). Leading up to it we kept asking, "Are you sure?" "It is really scary....". They went on it, loved it, and didn't think it was scary. Maybe we built it up the scare factor so much it turned out to be a lot less than they expected. Every child is different.

Call me cruel, but I get a kick out of seeing terrified people on the ride lol. It's almost as good as the ride itself. From young to old I've witnessed some great scares. It's classic when you see the picture at the end.

I love this ride!!!!! It is pretty intense but for me, it's one of those rides that I need to go on more than once when we're there. The first time we rode Dinosaur, there was a mom and her 7 year old daughter with her. They sat in our row and once the ride got going, the little girl hid her head in her mom's arms and started crying. My DH and I felt bad for her!
