You could also wait until midwinter when resale prices tend to be a little lower....?

Predicting resale prices are fairly risky right now. They may be slightly cheaper later this year, but just as likely they are slightly more expensive.

I have come to find with DVC if you think you just need 100 points more, but you would really rather have 160ish more for flexibility etc, just go ahead and buy the 160 now and be done with it. Highly likely you would end up buy those 60 points sometime in the future anyway.

Only thing I can add is that you can never have to many. The only reason I can advise for direct is the desire to stay at RIV or new resorts,

If that is not really an issue...or you have other unrestricted points for the occasional stay...then resale makes sense for AKV.

I am in the process of selling my BLT contract I bought just last year because RIV is a favorite and having restricted points was a pain since we I want to stay there as part of all my trips.

Since you know you like AKV, it makes it a good purchase. However, if the need to own there and needing those extra points is a few years away, you could do just the 100 direct now and worry about it later on down the road,

Other than AKV value and CL, those rooms are pretty easy to get most of the year at 7 months.

I, too, don’t know that prices will drop significantly. But I think it may be better to just buy the extra and be done. Gahh, I really hate admitting when my husband makes more sense than I do.

We do have other unrestricted points and we plan on holding on to those. I think you may have a point about adding on 100 now and waiting for the extra layer. I’ll have to see if I can talk him into that!

The cool thing about the AKL resale is that it’s not like you are marrying it. Historically, you make a little when you sell. Maybe you lose some, but it’s not like selling direct, ouch!

Nothing wrong with picking up a loaded AKL contract for when the kids are little and selling in 7 years. In that context, a little variation in resale price doesn’t really change the math much. I wouldn’t sweat over a few hundred bucks in small changes.

I talked my wife into letting “us” get more points by showing her that we could rent them as needed so it’s never really a “lost cause.” We’re three contracts deep now with a fourth pending ROFR. Not only have I not rented a single point we own, I’ve actually rented points from other members on three separate occasions so far (hence the fourth contract).

bottom line - you can never have enough points :)

I'm in a hold pattern right now. I do want to add a small direct contract, but I'm not sure if I will add a 3rd resort or add on to my current home resorts VGF and CCV. I want to see the details on the new VGF otherwise I will add CCV or Riviera. I dont see any reason to be in a rush to add. Don't have anything against resale for some but not for me, to much hassle trying to find my use year, number of points, resort and not being able to use it at new resorts.

My husband used to say 200 was enough and we could just get points transfers. And then he changed his tune a month ago to agreeing to 100 point add on. Now he wants more points because of the times of years we plan on going in a couple of years. January 2022 is likely the very last January we can pull the older one out of school to go. I love Disney in January so it’s a hard pill to swallow but it is what it is.

Instead of talking me out of extra points, you’ve all talked me into them :rolleyes1 This is not how I expected this to go!

Well, given your family size and planned travel patterns, it sounds like you (at least temporarily) need the extra points!

This is not the place to be talked out of more points!:)

Darn it. I guess I’ll be stalking the resale sites now looking for 150-160 at AKL or SSR. We probably could use the extra 50-60 to help cover the next 10 years.

Love these convos! As for me, I’ve decided to just pass because there is nothing that exists that I can talk myself into buying except the imaginary contract in my head that actually existed a few months ago. Let’s see how long this lasts. Hoping once my last contract’s points are active, I’ll be “safe”. Note: If you buy a loaded contract and spend it all in a blink, it is a sign you might not have bought enough the first time.

I made a few offers today. I had good counter offers on two for 160 points at SSR and same at AK. Different UY but that’s what we were looking for to better accommodate fall trips. Both come with all 2021 points; SSR comes with 29 banked 2020 points (which I likely could not use unless something was still open for our January trip after closing). Now I need to figure out which one to actually say yes to :flower:Obviously my husband is pushing for AKV, my girls don’t know we are adding on because they’re just kids.

Maybe that imaginary contract will come along again!
