Talk me into door magnets

Seeing your “41st & 53rd cruise” magnets shows your love of both magnets and cruising. And later cruises in the next photo! The fun didn’t stop.

The fun keeps going.....just finished DCL #56 last week!! Definitely an addiction.

Serious question. How big of a problem is theft when it comes to door magnets and decorations? I have a magnetic shelf that is just big enough to hold a Funko Pop and I have a Halloween Funko Pop I was going to put on the shelf and attach to the door. It wouldn't protrude off the door more than 3 or 4 inches. I thought it would be cute to put on the door with that magnetic shelf.

I have not had a magnet taken or FE messed with in 21 cruises. I hear this can happen, though.

More common stories are magnets got rearranged or moved to adjacent door.

Yes, it can. We had the majority of our magnets taken on one of our cruises. We never found them, on neighboring doors or anywhere else. Stupid thing is they all were personalized with names/dates/room number right on the face of the magnet, so someone obviously just wanted to steal some magnets.

We reported it to Guest Services, and when we returned to our room after dinner that night we found some hand made magnets/signs (from Guest Services) on our door. It was a really nice gesture.

I love making magnets for our cruises. I do reuse a lot of them, but always wind up making more. I have a a bunch for HOTHS and a bunch for Christmas.
Hubby thinks I go a little crazy and maybe I do, but I enjoy it.

Either way, if you don't want to risk it being taken, I'd just leave it at home.

No. The shelf has very strong magnets on the back and the Funko Pop would have been held in place with another set of magnets. I was actually worried about the shelf not coming off the door easily enough (not joking ). But I think I am going to cancel that idea and maybe just stick with the decorative door magnets.

Putting something fun like a Funko Pop does sound like inviting trouble (missing object).

As many magnets as get reused - I would take the risk and make some. Not spending a lot for premade ones. If it’s mainly time and the cost of magnets, it’s just a little sad if one goes astray. Again, I have never lost any. And I get enjoyment out if being creative. I am not an artsy person.

Well, it hasn't stopped me. Still making/putting magnets on the door.

It just means you should be aware it can happen and, maybe, use magnets that you don't mind "sharing" for the outside of the door.

But what goes through someone's head that makes them think that taking a magnet off the door is a good idea? Or is it more likely a small child doing it and the parents sitting back like "Aww. Look at little Johnny. He loves those magnets! Isn't he a little scamp?" while the kids take a magnet or two?

Personally, that's why I put our names/dates/room number ON THE FACE of the magnets. If they try to modify the magnet to hide that stuff, it ruins the magnet. If a kid just grabs one as they go by, and the parents find it later (and they will) I would hope they would return it.

But, as I said, it didn't stop me from doing magnets. I love making/designing them and putting them up. Plus I had all the images saved on my home computer, so I could remake them, if I want to.

I suspect teens in groups. Hall running, elevator riding, and sitting in stairwells. At least not crimes other than possibly magnet removal. And still, very rare.

I enjoyed making a couple of magnets, nothing super elaborate. If it is something that you want to do then go for it, but don't feel like you have to. It's all for fun, and helping identifying your room. Most doors are not decorated.

Last two cruises.

Hobby Lobby $1 light wooden shapes, most had a layer or two.



And no more doing gift exchanges, but still love having a decorative Fish Extender. Just not pockets.

I’ve done other variations of this in the past. Another annual opportunity to use creative side of brain. This was for a beach port intensive cruise.

We make ours, just print out a cute design, laminate it, and stick a small piece of magnetic tape to the back. We definitely reuse magnets from previous cruises, but also have some catered to whatever we're celebrating then and there.

We never used them pre-parenthood, but with a child, they're an effective way to allow her to easily find our room.

We just took cheap Disney magnets that I purchased on clearance, so there would be no great loss if any went missing (which none did).
