To look at things on the positive side - You are bing deployed AFTER the Disney Trip. You could have just paid for the trip in full, and then found out you were being deployed before or during the scheduled trip.

I think your Disney trip is (at least) perfect timing! What a great way to be together as a family before you leave. I think you need to have a "getting to know each other again" trip when you return

My hubby works for DOD and voluntarily deployed to Iraq last summer. It was only 4 months, but it, of course, wasn't easy in any way. You and your family will find your way through it, and our country is a wonderful place to live because of people like you who make the sacrifice.

We had our last trip when he returned, and it was WONDERFUL! A great way to reconnect for sure.

Enjoy your trip, and know that you're in my family's thoughts and prayers!

Last night me and my wife starting packing. It was kinda fun and exciting even with the looming deployment. Me and my wife both agreed on not talking about the deployment in detail or make any decisions until after our trip. We almost packed our "accessory" bag. The bag with the spray misters, first-aid, etc... It takes an entire bag, but its been a life saver many times over.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes. I showed my wife what everyone was saying and she said that she was grateful that there are still people that feel that way. Surprising enough we don't live in a military city so there isn't much support, but my wife has our family which is more than some people.

Just found out yesterday that another person from my reserve center is getting mobilized with me. So I have company now... YAHH... well can you get excited about having company on a mobilization? Does that sound weird? Oh well.. it is what it is.

I was also lucky that I had family close during my husband's deployment. The National Guard unit my husband was with was 100 miles away. Please tell your wife that it is OK to ask for help from family and friends. Many times even family are not sure what they can do to help, but they would be more than willing to do anything for your family. Please...after your trip see if there is a Family Readiness Group in your area she could be a part of. Call them and explain she is not with a local unit, but would like support from other families. Also there may be activities for your children in the surrounding communities. Here in Minnesota there are various camps - if they are old enough, or day activities to help children of deployed soldiers understand what is happening and find support.

It is good that someone else will be going with you. It will help with the transition. And I don't feel it is weird that you are happy someone else is going. I think that is good!!

Have a wonderful vacation and a safe deployment. Our prayers will be with you!

Oh, and don't forget that if you take a day from Disney (of course not!), the Hero's Salute at Seaworld is available. Free admission for you and your family, I think up to 2 dependents, with your military ID.

I am so sorry to hear that you have to deploy but like everyone else Thank You for your service. I am a dependent of a lifer, and my brother put in 20 years so I know the challenges military life can bring. Hopefully this vacation will give you lots of great memories while you are gone and you guys can work on planning your next trip for when you get back.

from another military family to yours---thank you for your service! We always try to do Disney right after a deployment to celebrate. Last deployment, we went to Disney about a month before mob and I made DH a book to take with him for pics, ect. YOu will have fantastic memories and maybe you could have the wife and kids plan a homecoming trip too. It will give them something to look forward to~~~we always planned about a month after the ghomecoming date and they have always been our best trips. HUGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

If this helps at all... you can try to think of it as GOOD timing. Think of the special memories you can build with your children, for them to think back on while you are away.
Try to have special pictures taken with each child and you can frame them for each to have while you are gone. They won't know at the time why they are each getting singled out for special time with Daddy, but it will be precious to them while you're gone.

Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank your wife for me as well. She is making just as much of a sacrifice as you.
