Boy talk about timing... Guess who called me this morning... Only 10 days until we start our WDW vacation... My reserve center...

I am GETTING MOBILIZED

I leave, well in about 8 weeks to Iraq. I have to keep this to myself and not tell the kids. I don't want to ruin their vacation. My wife and I have just held each other, but realize that it is something that has to be done.

Hopefully the vacation helps ease my mind a little. Tomorrow I discuss my orders with my work. I know I am going to hate this

Oh hun, I'm sorry! My husband just got out of the time slot where he could deploy, so I know we're good for the next six months or so until his zone comes back up. I know you've gotta be stressin, but don't let it ruin your trip. Go down and have a blast, make some memories to get you through the long days in Iraq. Buy a misterfan and take it out with you, I think that'd be awesome to have out there. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers, I know how hard it is to be the one left behind.

I just wanted to say, my prayers are with you and your family. Enjoy your vacation and make lots of good memories. We celebrated my husband's return from Iraq with a trip to Disney. Thank you and your family for your service. We owe our country's freedom to the wonderful service men of this country. I know that it will be tough to be apart, but reunions are wonderful!!

Hey Chkysbak we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers as well. My nephew just returned from Iraq about a month ago and will be leaving for Afganistan before Christmas. We just celebrated homecoming for a friend of mine after her 18 months over there. Just keep that thought in mind. Maybe another trip to WDW?!?

I know that any time to be mobilized is a "bad" time. But now you and your wife can still have your vacation, and make some important memories to carry ya through. If you can, maybe try to get a babysitter one of the nights of the trip (disney contracts w/ 2) or one of the kids clubs, and do something special, just the 2 of you. If you can, maybe blow the budget and splash out on a romantic dinner or massage or something. If money is an object (like for us), just do something fun, the two of you. 2 trips ago my DH and I put the kids in Neverland club and hit all 4 parks in 5 hours, riding all the rides we can't take our kids on so we could do it together. We had the best time! We laughed so hard, and still say it's one of our favorite memories.
As the sister of a marine, I have watched someone I love deploy. It's not the same, at all, but I just want you to know how much I appreciate what you- and your family - are doing.

After having a couple of days to process the information, it has some what gotten easier. My wife and I both agreed that we will tell the children after WDW. We are setting things in motion to prepare ourselves. I know that I have a million things to do, just got to make sure first things first. WDW packing, trip, then we will worry about the deployment.

OMG... I only have a week to pack... I lost a week somehow....

Need to get my packing list and start packing... CODE RED CODE RED... EVERYONE TO THEIR PACKING STATIONS...lol

So glad you will at least be able to take your WDW vacation before you go. It would have been REALLY bad timing for the vacation to be scheduled for AFTER you deploy!
