I just printed out the most recent of the constintely changing disneyland schedule of events for Thanksgiving weekend. On it there is "Tales from the Hearth" at the Grand Californian Lobby. Does anyone have any insight into what this is??
It's storytelling, I think right next to the big fireplace. It was one of the things I wanted to do when we stayed there, but we never did. Sounds interesting though. If you're staying there, I highly recommend taking the hotel tour. It's at 2:30p.m. every day, and lasts about an hour. Gives lots of insight about the design of the hotel, and our guide also showed us a couple of hidden mickeys.
Do you have to be staying there to take the tour? I would LOVE to take a tour, but I am not staying there. But it might help make up my mind about whether to stay there in the future.
I'm really not sure if you have to be a guest. They did ask us for our room number, but I got the impression that a couple of the people on our tour were not hotel guests, judging by their expressions of awe! Maybe when you get there you could stop by Guest Services and ask (that's where you sign up for the tour and where it departs from).
We did the storytelling when we were at GC. The story teller arrives at the large lobby fireplace area dressed like she had been hiking. She talked to each child and then told legends and stories about California and the wild. A number of times they were interactive with the kids doing hand motions and repeating words. We were able to sit and watch from the lobby and have some adult time but some parents stayed with the children. The storyteller was very animated and the children enjoyed it.
