Is there any need to take your own food or drinks, or do they have a good choice ?
9 hrs is a long time :p

Hi Alex - who are yo flying with?? Virgin, for example, water and feed you for a good deal of the flight. When you've taken off you get a drink and small bag of savouries (all complimentary), then they come round with menus to choose lunch from usually three choices, then you are offered wine/beer/other drinkies (reasonable range of spirits and softies too) with your meal. Virgin (used to) offer either brandy/Baileys after meals as well as tea/coffee, but I understand from some people this has now stopped:( . Then you can order drinks for the rest of the flight.

They come around with an icecream during one of the film/tv loops and then a "tea" before you land (think it was filled pittas last year), again with tea/coffee/soft drinks.

They have sometimes come around with trays of OJ and water throughout the flight.

Blimey, must be lunchtime cos I'm hungry now;)

We don't feel the need to take any extra food with us, but ALWAYS take a good size bottle of water because dehydration is the worst thing for jet lag.

Hope that helps:D

We always take snack items with us. As you say 9 hours is along time.

A word of warning, if you take any fresh fruit eat it before you land. Our DS still had an apple in his bag when we landed at Sanford last year and you would have thought he was smuggling drugs into the country!

Thanks both :D
We're flying with JMC Annie. Didn't choose them, Travel city direct use them.
All I know is that you get a free flight meal .

Hi Alex

Yes 9 hours is a long time. We fly with Virgin and even though Nic eats all of his meal and a good precentage of mine I still take him munchies.

Last time he had a packet of sandwiches and a tube of Pringles. Also took him some bottles of drink.

I'd much rather lung it on board than him to be hungryas he never sleeps and I sleep most of the way. He works solidly for the couple of days before we leave so the extra food does him good.

I will be taking my own food next trip with Virgin. Last trip the only option I liked on the menu was described as 'Fish and Chips'.
It was actually soggy potato wedges with a small piece of yukkie cod with a tasteless bread crumbie covering served with a sort of tomato sauce - not very nice :(

My youngest DD turned her nose up at the kids meal too - soggy chicken nuggets, chips and reheated baked beans.

Like Goofyish I thought the food last year on Virgin was awful. Before that I used to tell people how good it was. Complained when we got back and got a letter apologizing for the food and saying that things were now back to normal (this was not long after 9/11). No little gift or anything even though we are Frequent Virgin Club members. I will not be so tolerant this time if it has not improved.

We usually take a few snacky items 'just in case'.

DH has a bottomless pit for a stomach, so the airline portions are rarely enough to keep him going for 9 hrs! DDs and I usually leave quite a bit, so he tops up on our leftovers.

Didn't take any extra food but did take extra bottled water which we all drank. I would definately recommend taking it with you.

Kids took sweets of course.

As many as you like, Elaine, free of charge - but you may have to ask once the lunch is over.

Must admit we never bother because I have our trusty bottle of water, but there are quite a few people who either ring their bell (ok, push the button then;) ), or get up and wander around to where the service station is.

Fisrt time post on this site, but thought I would add that things with nuts should not be taken, as the smell of nuts spreading through the plane has triggered some people's allergies.....I believe that they are no longer sold on the planes too!

Will be stocking up with plenty of bottled water though!;)

When we flew in April with AA they gave out dry roasted peanuts as a snack.

We always take snacks for the kids as they don't like the airline foods, but when we booked we were told you are not suppose to.

We were told Airtours have just changed their policy, when they introduced the £15 meal charge, people were told they could buy their meals for £15 or take their own food, now they've stopped you taking your own as no one wanted to buy theirs.

Nikki :D
