Taking your Laptop to the World

Neither the Poly or the Hard Rock had desks in the rooms & we had to squeeze the laptop onto a small round table to do anything. Also had to unplug a lamp at the HRH for an open plug for the laptop & if I recall, had to go behind the bed at the Poly for a plug. REALLY wish these places had real desks with plug-ins built into the desk, like at the Anaheim Hilton.

I'm going to be staying at the Coronado Springs resorts in a while...does anyone know if the in room safe (either there or another resort) is big enough for a small laptop?

Thanks!!!

I am just back from Pop Century and the wall safe in our room was big enough for a laptop! :D

I travel alot and ALWAYS leave my laptop in my room if i need to. I have been doing so for 10 years without as much as a single incident. Then again I'm not one to stress over things. To me, constantly worrying is worse than a loss.

Insurance companies want to know that you made a reasonable effort to protect your laptop. Just leaving it on a desk isn't good enough.

Can you give me a citation for this little fact?

I travel with my laptop 6 or more times a year. When I have not taken it with me to work, I just leave it on the desk in my hotel room. I have never had an issue. When reviewing my policies with my agent last year, he never informed me that it had to be secured or I would not be covered. It is also not in any of the disclosures.

I also question the value of claiming something under 2 grand on your homeowners policy in this day and age.

Remember, the maid staff as well as anyone who enters a guest room in a hotel is bonded. And, with the advent of programable locks as mentioned upthread, no one who has checked into that room before can gain entry after checkout.

On our last trip, it sat in the corner on top of the case of bottled water we brought with us.

I took a laptop just for that reason...and to play Castle Wolfenstein on the plane. I left it in the room at CBR and downloaded pics when we got back. It was a great tool and we didn't have to worry about buying more memory sticks for the digital camera as we could just download them.

I'm going again this summer and its coming with me...and so are some other games for that long flight.

I didn't even think about it being stolen from the room. Hmmm. I didn't have it out in plain sight - but I didn't worry about it either. You know what we could do? We could get a little lock for our suitcase and keep it in there.

I take my laptop and hubby takes his--always. In fact, sometimes hubby tries to take two of his, can you tell what he does for a living?;)

We just put them in the luggage each day and have never had a problem. Since both our laptops have WIFI cards, we also take our airport and set it up in the room. Nothing like being able to email with your feet up.

My FIL (who is going with us) will be taking his along so we can unload our digital pics onto it. We're driving, so it will probably be kept in the car while we're in the parks. I'm sure that the hotel might be able to provide you with a safe or something.

We took ours to the Poly and sometimes it was in the suitcase, but we left it on the table at least one day and all was fine. I wouldn't advise leaving it in the car either because of the heat.

I brought my laptop last year (a big old Dell Inspiron; I've since gotten an iBook) and I kept it in it's case with my other luggage when I wasn't in the room and it wasn't disturbed.
