Taking your camper to other events

Ok so some threads on here about football, peacocks and kungaloosh so I didn't feel too silly for starting this thread.

How many of you, when a trip is planned to some other place than the fort automatically think where will we camp? I know whenever we're planning a trip or someone asks us to go to an out of town event I look for campgrounds rather than hotels. I haven't stayed in a hotel since 2004 for pleasure. I travel a lot for work and get a room then but not when we go anywhere else. I'm doing a job at the power plant in Intercession City soon and guess where I'm looking at staying? You got it,,, the fort. Tell me where I can get a room anywhere else for that price. I can write it off too MU HA HA HA. Anyway I just wanted to see who else does this and also if anybody takes the camper tailgating. There was a big article on tailgating in the last RV View Magazine which was really cool.

We camp on all out trip. Except the trip tp San Fran. Airtran did not have a trailer hitch. Nothing like sleeping in your own bed.

When going on vacation, it's just assumed we're taking the camper. That's just what we do and where we stay. We obviously camp mostly at places besides Disneyworld since Raleigh's just a little farther than Jacksonville.

But when traveling for other reasons, we always consider it as well. Last year, my brother-in-law was getting married and they all live about three hours away. We usually stay with the in-laws when visiting "Grammaw and Granddaddy" but with this trip and all the crowds, my wife was the most hesitant. Everyone thought we were a little off when we said, we'll just stay in the camper. It turned out to be a great idea. We could shower when we wanted, didn't have to worry about running out of hot water, and we just chilled when we wanted to. At the in-laws house, it was similar to the house in the movie 16 Candles. Everyone running around like crazy but we were just chillin' at the campground.

We camp as well. We use the military campgrounds and usually pay about $12 a nite. Helps me justify the payment. We also stayed in it as we moved from Ft Bragg to Ft. Polk. I even used it when my dd graduated from basic training. Of couse, we had the popup back then. This tt would be more convenient. We were not the only ones there for graduation staying there either. Graduation morning there were a lot of people looking pretty spiffy for hanging out at a campground. I wish we could have gone back to that cg for other stuff as well because it had a really nice lake. I can't wait to check out the military cg near us now. It is supposed to be awesome.

We brought our previous camper (a cub) to Williamsburg, stayed at Norfolk Naval Station. We used it when we went to the Homeschool Convention. My mom has set up an area in her backyard for us to park it when we come to stay for more than a couple of nights at a time. She has a gate and a sewer hookup and everything. That way we can stay longer w/o driving her nuts (which is not a long road). LOL There are a couple of neat military cg's on the beaches of NC that we stayed in our camper, one near Carolina Beach at Ft. Fischer, the other near Jacksonville (NC) at Camp Lejeune. We also plan on hitting Stone Mountain Georgia before dh deploys. I also hope to get some trips into Texas while he is gone. There is an RV group that I have gotten to know that does things in that area.

The way I see it, have camper will travel. We can do a lot more and stay a lot longer w/o the expense of a hotel. I also like knowing who was last in my bed. I like not have to load and unload luggage on a multi day journey. I like that the kids have the familiarity and know where they are going to sleep. I like that I know where everything is.

Oh well, I have rambled on long enough.

Ours goes ,even when we visit my brother for a weekend. 2 hrs away. Would rather sleep in my bed.,and all JAGUARS games,fire up the honda 2000s,ruff it comfortably... DOOM BUGGY

Except for our Free Dining trip to Disney next month, yep we'll take the camper whenever possible (except maybe Jamaica, mon!!) We've only had ours a few months, and only been out in it twice. Our goal is to take it out at least once a month. (Just got back from Whitewater Rafting on the Ocoee!!, and took the camper!!)

Since we started camping over a year ago, we try to use it whenever/wherever possible. Went to Atlanta last WE for cousin's baby's baptism and stayed at Stone Mtn (which was fun BTW). We much prefer our own beds, being able to easily put 2 yo down for a nap, and being able to enjoy campground amenities. I love my relatives, but I would rather stay in the camper.

1- Anytime someone mentions taking a trip, I try to find a campground nearby. I have a friend that wants me to go with her and her kids to KY next spring. I told her fine- just gotta find a nearby campground because I want my own space !! I don't even think of planning a trip without out motorhome.

2- We are currently trying to get info about tailgating this year at the Michigan/Ohio State game. We went once with some friends and had a great time. They just used their suv and a little tent but I noticed all the motorhomes and the set ups they had and knew I wanted to give that a try !!

Why stay in a room that someone else has stayed in when you can take all your own things with you?!?!? We actually plan our trips around the campgrounds! There's something so great about going somewhere, pulling in and already being unpacked, stocked (fridge), and ready for you. Plus it makes it a little easier on the kids being able to be away, but still be somewhere they're familiar with (makes going to bed and sleeping sooooo much easier!).

We love to camp and wouldn't have it any other way!

Unfortunately the last couple yrs we have been limited to only using our camper on our trips south to Disney. We still manage to get away a few weeks throughout the yr but on those trips we are going to horse, carriage, or antique auctions and need to bring our horse trailer. Just hate hotels rooms!

We only stay in hotels if it is the dead of winter and I don't want to de-winterize for a weekend trip. We are heading to Lakewood in Myrtle Beach in a couple of weeks. Two weekends in pigeon forge in Oct & Nov. Winterize and then de-winterize for Jan trip to WDW.

Don't forsee a hotel in my future in the next few months at least!

In another thread we recently learned about the Jetty Park campground and are definitely looking to taking a trip there this winter

Beach camping with a chance to see a shuttle/rocket launch, can't beat that!

We take our TT anywhere we think it might be nice to have. If we go to Cedar Point for the day we take it. We eat our meals in it, and if we go to the waterpark it provides a nice place for everyone to change. For 4th of July we took it to the park where the fireworks were so we had somewhere to chill if the kids needed a break, and a clean bathroom.

When we think of going somewhere just for the weekend, I look for campgrounds. Did a hotel stay one weekend in Charleston due to business/pleasure and with two kids, hotels are not in my vocabulary any more. I told my DH camp or we don't go along.

Just like LawnSpecialties, every Thanksgiving we go to the "Oma's" which is about 2 hours from home but take the camper to stay in because we are guaranteed our own bed, shower and peace/quiet away from all the other relatives. This is the only time that all 5 brothers and their families can be together at one time with their mom. Its quite crowded that weekend.

Camping always. Way to go CarolinaCamper, we go to Stone Mountain every year, love it.

All our vacations are planed around the motorhome. We have too much invested in it to leave it home. We have even started using our DVC points at FW instead of the villas.

Hmmm... is golfing an "event"?? My DH has been known to take the MoHo to play golf in the late mornings.... shower, eat a leisurely lunch, take a quick nap, and then, drive the few minutes to work, parking it in the "back forty" till he gets off.

He works nights, and work is 45+ minutes from home. When he plays golf out of town, it's *so* much easier to just take the MoHo..... I think this qualifies as an "event".....

We live nearby, about a 15 minute drive to Jetty Park, and have started going every couple of weekends. It's a GREAT campground, very relaxing. With a recent change in management (Sept. 1st, I believe) things have been a little out-of-sorts there but I'm hoping it gets cleaned up and smooth running again very soon. The only complaint we have is the last 2 times we've been on sites where the water hook-up was on the opposite side of where it should be and the sewer hook-up a bit too far from where it should be. So we know now to have another length of water hose and sewer hose. We have never needed extras before, anywhere. But overall, it's a nice CG and it's on the ocean! Can't beat that!
