I know we can take our own wine on board (have 26 bottles packed) and can take a filled wine glass into dinner. I always pack a big wine glasss, fill it up, and take it right in.

But will they allow me to take a small carafe into dinner instead of carrying a full glass of wine?

Anyone done this before?

I do not know what your servers would say, I could see a glass (sort of) but definately not a carafe....they might consider it the same as bringing your own bottle to dinner and charge you a corking fee...even though there would be no cork.

No. Nor would I even consider doing it.

I'm with you on that!

I am all for bringing a few bottles to drink in your stateroom; but I wouldn't even consider bringing a bottle or glass for that matter to the table.
Just my 2 cents.

If you don't mind me asking, how exactly do you pack and carry on 26 bottles of wine?

Nope -- you cannot take a glass of wine nor a carafe. Not allowed. It's also not proper etiquette.
We even bought a bottle of Dom Perignon in Sessions and they couldn't even send it over to our dining rotation for us. We had to go back to Sessions for it after our dinner.

We took in glassess of wine with us almost every night to dinner. We often would go to the bar and have a glass or 2 before dinner and if we had a full or half a glass left and dinner was starting we would carry the glass with us.
We never had a problem with anyone ever saying anything to us. I don't think they would like it if you brought a carafe though. And the wine we did bring in with us was purchased from the bar not from our room, but they had no way of knowing that.

We did not have a problem with this in January. We purchased a bottle in the Cadillac Lounge and the bartender brought the rest of the bottle to the table for us. I beleive that we also took a glass from the lounge to dinner with us on another night. I don't think the server minded since we had also purchased the wine package for the cruise and so he got the automatic gratuity for that.

It's perfectly permissible to bring a bottle. They simply charge you a "corking fee" of $15 per bottle if you bring it. Why not bring a bottle you are particularly fond of?

Exactly!

Here's the thing: DCL has made provision for those who wish to bring their own wine-- bring it and they will charge a corking fee. If you bring your own wine in a cup, you are effectively ripping them off. Trust me, there's nothing in the Emily Post book that says, "bring it in a glass instead of a bottle and don't worry about the fee!"

In plain language: It's TACKY, people!!!

I, too, am waiting to find out how you would pack 26  bottles of wine. :scratchin

We have never considered it tacky to bring in a glass. We don't do it often, but my husband has indeed done it. We don't bring wine onboard with us...it's always either been wine he got somewhere else on the ship.

There were a couple of evenings when we purchased champagne in the lobby atrium and we always took our unfinished drinks in to dinner - no one said anything to us and I didn't feel as though it was rude. Why shouldn't I bring my unfinished drink? That never prevented us from ordering additional drinks with dinner if we so chose.

In addition to that, we asked our severs if we could bring our champagne from the REAS gift basket to dinner one night so that we could share with the other couple we dined with each night. They were fine with it and did not charge us a fee for popping the cork.

We left him an extra gratuity that night, anyway, because he was so good to us. :D

:rotfl: :rotfl: In fairness there is a teeny tiny fact you should know about this Scuba - there are approximately 130 disers (not counting all the kids)going on the 10 day cruise with him, he's not drinking all that by himself.

:drinking1

And I don't think he really is all that concerned about the corkage fee, either.

Yup, well said. Mr. Scuba didn't offer all of the facts. IN FACT, he had some sort of special wine specially bottled for us with labels that say something like "10 days of Holiday Magic" or some such thing. He has offered many of us a bottle of this special wine as a souvenier.

Plus there is the wine tasting party that one of our group organized and we all are brining a bottle or two from our home region to share with the group.

Mr. Scuba....shame on you for not disclosing all of the facts! and THANK you for your generosity. I'd love to help you carry it on, but seeing as you are pitching a tent and sleeping at the port the day before, I won't make it there in time (ya think that will get the tackiness police going??? :earseek: :earseek: )

Yep, and I think four of those bottles are ours. Some of you may have overlooked that Scuba Diver is from FL. He's driving down, dropping the boxes of wine off at the curb. Other than that, not sure how he's packing it.

Sorry, I happen to know what this cruise costs. And I don't consider bringing a glass of wine to dinner ripping DCL off in any way, shape, or form.
