Hi All!

I'm in the process of planning a trip and I was thinking about taking an Amtrak Train to Orlando. I live near Boston, MA, so it'll be a long train ride, but I love the train and think it would be a fun experience.

Has anyone taken the train on a long distance trip before? I'd love to hear about any experiences people have had.

Thanks so much!

:)

I've never done it personally, but did look into it once. Just warning you, it is a long ride. The airfares on Southwest are really good from BWI here, so I would think flying is better. Just my two cents.

We use it to get to WDW alot. We're from northeast Ohio, one train to DC and a second one from DC to Kissimmee. Train time approx. 36 plus hours. We enjoy it, relax, eat our lunch and while away the hours. Yes, flying is faster but there are those of us that do not fly, poster asked about the train. Back to topic, Amtrak can be late know for it, be prepared for it, delays happen. We take a blanket, food and drink, DVD player, Ipods and books. We can't beat the price, 450 round trip for the both of us. We're in no hurry, we relax and enjoy the countryside and it doesn't cut into our Disney time, we still stay at Disney 9-12 nights. Room around the seats is huge, seats recline quite a bit, leg rest and foot rest, table pulls down from seat back in front of you. We've had issues but nothing we couldn't cope with. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input/perspective! I am wrestling with the travel time difference between flying and taking the train, but I'm trying to do all sorts of things that I've never done before on my next Disney vacation, so I'm thinking the train is a good option!

About ten years ago I went to WDW via train. I live in Maine and train service was not available yet. We went out of Boston and it took 24 hours to get to Florida. My first advice would be get a sleeper car especially if you will be going overnight. I was very tired when I got off the train. The train station is in an industrial area of Orlando. It took about thirty minutes or so to get to WDW. There were plenty of taxis for transport to the world. Need more info let me know.

How was the trip for you? Was the train comfortable? Did you get really bored? Was it crowded? Would you ever do it again? I actually used to live in Maine up until last year. I loved the Downeaster rail service into Boston.
