I'm taking the plunge and joing WW this week. I've narrowed my choice of meetings down to 2. I am joining with my DS's DGF's mom (read: DS' future MIL--hopefully). She has gone before and when I told her I was joining she said she would join with me. (I think it will be fun to have someone I can call in a panic and ask how many points in half of an M & M) :rotfl:
Anyway I hear from people that your meeting leader is very important so I want to try 2 meetings to see if I feel more comfortable at one than the other. I hope I can do this.

Anyway--was going to keep it a secret but told friends and family when I went home for a wedding earlier this month. Since I am going home in Dec. thought that might motivate me----these people know and will be looking!!!

My biggest problem-- I don't cook. I mean I used to (in another lifetime) but by the time I get home from work I just want to veg--we eat out ALOT!!! And I love BEEF!!! I am a steak kinda gal!!! I am hoping to find easy to prepare recipes or will probably try to live off the WW frozen dinners. But we eat lunch out everyday at work!!!!!!! I heard WW has a book for dining out and hope I can use it for work. Otherwise I will have to stay behind by myself (we had one woman who was doing a special diet and she would bring her meals with her to the restaurant and just order water. I felt funny being with her and so would not do it myself. I think I would be uncomfortable).

Also--I am allergic to aspartame (NutraSweet) and have always used that as an 'excuse"---that stuff is in everything--well not so anymore. A lot of stuff now has that sorbitol or other ingredients. But I will need to watch what I buy.

Anyway---my pt and dr told me to do a few weeks on WW before I joined a gym. Discussing it with my pt I will probably do curves for a few months (he thinks I'll build past curves after a few months but he thinks its a great starting point.) Then I'm not sure what I'll do---will have to discuss it with them again but I have some physical limitations that will need to be considered. I can go to my pt to "work out" under his supervision but as he said--that will cut into my health insurance and they limit my # of visits per year.

My goals for this week:
Actually start WW meetings
Take the stairs for at least two floors (I work on the tenth floor--so I'll get off the elevator at 8).
Walk for a minimum of 20 minutes every other day (on my treadmill with a slight incline set)

So ...here I am......ready for blastoff!!!!!!

Congratulations!

You have a very sound plan and are heading toward success! I WISH you the best. Let us know how you are doing.

I am sure you will love the WW program. You mentioned that you don't care to cook. I don't cook very often but there are really simple meal suggestions (small amount of cooking). You can really use any of the "diet" meals out there, Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine they are really WW friendly.

The dining out guide is pretty limited almost to FF places. If you eat at casual dining (except for Applebee's) you may not be able to find the values for the meals and just have to "guestimate".

Also I agree that the leader is important. The great thing about that is once you pay for the week, you can go to any other meeting during the week without paying. So you can shop around for a leader.

WW also has a great community board on their site, and they have lots more information than I could give.

Hope you have a great OP (on program) day! :goodvibes

I think the most important thing to learn in regards to making WW work while eating out, is: learn serving portion sizes. It really doesn't matter what you eat, it's how much of it you eat. Learn the tips and tricks to eyeball serving/portion sizes, then use the WW materials to estimate points. So, for example, be sure to only eat one serving size portion of your steak and then you can look up what one serving of steak equals in points.

If you stick to simple foods like steak (for example) then figuring points won't be hard at all. If you start adding complex sauces, etc then it gets harder. Try to learn portion/serving sizes and stick to simple foods when eating out.

good luck, it sounds like you are really ready to go! :thumbsup2
