Can anyone advise me if I can take the contraceptive pill with me to Florida without having a letter from the doctor or anything else like that. I know you have to have a letter or something when taking prescription drugs and technically they are prescribed.

I've never got a letter - I just take it in the original packaging with the days on etc. I've never been stopped, but I always figure you would just explain what it was - maybe I'm naive, but it doesn't look very suspicious.

i have to take a letter because of the steroids I have to carry as a precaution, as they are just like the ones used to cheat at sport, and apparently get sold for that reason

I've never had a problem and I've never taken a letter with me. I usually put my pack in my make-up bag which goes in my hand luggage. Never had any problems with this.

you don't need a doctor's letter for prescription medicine, unless it's something that's illegal in the US (i can't imagine what that would be).

Who do you think would stop you from bringing the pill into the states?
It's not cocaine.
US customs is not in the business of checking whether you have a prescription for the pill. They really couldn't care less.
Unless of course you had a suitcase filled with so many boxes that it's clearly not for your personal use. That would certainly get them interested. But not for bringing in the normal amount you would use on your holiday.

I would imagine you'd have no problems whatsoever :thumbsup2

We've taken DH's Morphine in to the US before, without a letter, and never been questioned.
I always get one now but, in the early days, never thought!
I would ask for one, just to be on the safe side - or at least take the tear off prescription bit :sunny:

Absolutely no problem just make sure they are in your hand luggage :goodvibes

As above, I have always carried them in my hand luggage and have never had any problems.

definantely put them in your hand luggage. I had all my sons pill in our hand luggage and put his vitamins in the case and our cases got opened just for that reason. wasn't a problem but as it is pills I would carry them on you. I would also take your repeat presciption with you for all the room it takes up. We were told that you only need a letter if it is a controlled drug.

Same here, i always carry it in my hand luggage with my other medication and have never had a problem before.

And another one, always carry them in my hand luggage and never had a problem. I get ill so often that when I travel out there I feel like a walking branch of Boots. I had over 15 different types of pills and medications with me last year, some prescribed, some not. I just made sure everything was in it's proper boxes, no loose pills etc and easily accessible so I could explain what each one was for. They never even looked twice.

Gosh, never even thought about it being a potential problem, just always carried them in hand luggage like everyone else. One less thing to worry about I guess,

Thanks to everyone. I know to some people it seemed like a silly question but last time we went (2000) I was using the depo injection so didnt have to take anything with me.

Definitely not a problem. I have flown all over the world (including to the US two weeks after 9/11) with my EpiPen in my hand luggage and have never once been asked about it, even though you can clearly see the needle on the x-ray screens. Now, if that doesn't get them interested I don't know what will.
