So how does this work if someone has an ADR and they aren't using it and give it to you? Do you use their name or do they cancel and you call immediately after them?

I would just use there name and have their phone number and reservation number with me.

I've done this twice. The other DISers and I PM' each other and agreed on an exact time to call together. The first time it worked (a dinner ressie for O'Hana), the second it didn't (a dinner ressie for Le Cellier. That actually is not really surprising, given LC's popularity.)

A couple extra tips if you do it that way: when I got through to a CM and asked her to check O'Hana, she at first said nothing was available. I asked her to please keep checking since I knew someone was cancelling at that moment. The other DISer and I had already planned that she would PM me immediately after she hung up the phone. When she did, I informed the CM, and Presto! there was my ressie. :thumbsup2 We also coordinated the call to be right as the dining reservations line would be closing for the night (don't remember the exact time??) so that there hopefully would be less chance of someone snagging it before I could get to it.

The previous post might work too, but only given that the other person is comfortable giving you personal information. I would be uncomfortable giving mine or asking for someone else's, but it just depends on the person.

Can't you just give them the other person's name and change the ressie to the other person's name? That's what I did last year. Someone PM'd me and I gave the person's name and phone number. They called back and gave the rest of the information.

Got to thinking after I posted:
Hope it doesn't sound like I think the way I did it is the only way to go. Simply changing the name is definitely easier and you're guaranteed the ressie that way. The way I did it is useful if someone doesn't want to exchange personal info, like names and phone numbers, and it's not nearly as complicated as it sounds, lol. :) Just gotta do whatever works to get those must-have ressies!!

I gave up a coral reef res. it was easy. I called changed the name on the res. and e-mailed the confirmation # to the gal that wanted it. Done. I don't know how you do it when it is a credit card guaranteed res. such as CRT

I traded ADRs on my last trip. The other person and I pm'd each other and gave our real names. We both had the same number in our party. She called and changed the name on her ADR to my name and I did the same. She gave them my number as well. It all worked out. We were given new reservation numbers to exchange. I thought it may have been easier to simply check in under her name and she under my name.

I transferred one to someone by just calling and changing the name ont he ressie, and gave the new person the #.

I tried to switch a CC hold reservation (from someone else to me), and depsite having both of us on the phone on a 3 way call, they could not do it.... still don't know why they just couldn't change the CC. But lucky me, the person is so nice, she's letting me keep the ressie and use it under her name. :)
