Taking snacks/drinks on planes?

Since the airlines have cut back on everything, I am wondering what, if anything at all you get in the way of food, snacks and drinks? Also, do they let you bring on snacks such as fruit snacks (like the Princesses or Scooby Doo-- the ones in the individual packs) and what about juice boxes? (Of course if they serve drinks, juice boxes probably wouldn't be needed)

Can someone please help me w/ this? (we haven't gotten our tickets yet, we are waiting for SW, but still could end up on another carrier.)

Thanks!! :sunny:

You can take snacks aboard a plane! SPIRIT no longer serves any FREE snacks on it's flights other than beverages. SWA still serves a small snack.

Be aware that beverages in open containers (coffee cups, etc.) are near impossible to get through TSA screening, so either finish it before you go through or buy it after you get through!

I flew song last year and brought along a brown paper bag filled w/ chips and crackers. Had no problem.

Thanks! I am thinking about my kids and myself! (Especially if we were to get stuck on the plane or something!) I will start stocking up on the fruit snacks, we use those at DW while waiting in lines or for shows...works wonders for keeping the kids (and our) spirits and energy up!

Hi, welovedisneyx4!
On our recent trip to DL from Florida, we brought all kinds of food with us!
Each kid brought a Lunchable with a Capri Sun in it in their backpack (not in there any longer than at school before they have lunch), fruit snacks, Pringles (the can doesn't get squished like bags of chips!), goldfish (in Tupperware), and a Subway sub (picked up at the airport before boarding) for DH and me.
Our flights were 2-1/2 and 3 hours out to Dallas and then CA and this was the kids' first plane trip, so I didn't know what to expect.
On American, all we got were bags of pretzels and drinks.
I was glad to have the extra munchies.
Depending on your flight time and length, you might not need as much!
But as long as you don't have glass (a big no-no), pretty much anything should be okay.
I saw plenty of people with small soft-side coolers.
AA sells these snack pack things for around $4, but I was much happier with our selection of goodies!
Enjoy planning for your trip!
Rose :)

You can carry on any foodstuffs you like on a domestic flight. SWA even lets you carry on an extra bag if it is a disposable-packaging bag of food to be consumed during the flight. You cannot consume BYOB liquor during the flight, however.

The one caution that most people will give you is to be considerate of others by avoiding foods with strong odors, and meats that leave bones behind (fried chicken, ribs, etc.), as the smell tends to linger even after the plane has been cleaned. It's good to steer clear of peanut products, in case someone near you is deathly allergic. Also, of course, nothing that needs to be cut up; precut everything.

I don't normally allow DS to have Lunchables, but I buy them for plane trips, drink and all. I have my favorite deli pack a couple of nice sandwiches for the grownups, pre-pay them with a credit card, and pick them up en route to the airport. I'm careful how I pack food for flights; I once had security accidentally up-end my shopping bag of goodies before a morning flight; a glass bottle of orange juice shattered INSIDE the x-ray machine.

You can bring any food you want. Don't feel that you have to be limited to just snacks. In bigger airports where there's a lot of selection, I tend to get my food to go and take it on the airplane with me -- gives me something to do during a long boring flight.

The only time I can imagine any food not being allowed on-board would be if it was somehow thought to be a safety threat, such as like someone else mentioned, open containers of non-translucent soft drinks (if they can't see inside, they might not want to take the chance that you're not hiding something in there.

We just flew United on a non-Disney trip with connecting flights and each flight had beverage service with a snack (dog biscuit looking cookie that was delicious, 2 iced oatmeal cookes, & a snack mix with pretzels, peanuts that was spicy were the snacks given out on the different flights). On the way back we had a very early flight with a long layover so we brought a backpack with bagels, water, sandwiches, snacks and had no problems. The airlines (and airport shops) encourage you to bring your own food now.

No reason to fill up with "fun food". It's OK to bring a sandwich. Most airports have places you can buy sandwiches by the gates. Get the condiments on the side so your bread doesn't get soggy. Even Subway will give you packets of dressing.

My DH travels a lot on business. He always has some protein bars/food bars in his carryon, sometimes an apple as well. It's nice to have *something* to eat, just in case you don't have time to pick up a sub, etc. before your flight. Also useful when you get delayed & all the airport food vendors have closed up shop.

My 3 yr old is deathly allergic to peanuts - and also a type 1 diabetic. We bring some food on the plane for him to Orlando - more snack type since the flight isn't so long. We brought along drink packs (see through on the back), string cheese, chips, apple, etc. I also did see a lot of the airport restaurants advertising that they'd pack your sandwich to take on the plane.

If you have a short flight I wouldn't bother - if your airline serves a light snack you'd likely be fine! We very much liked Independence Air - they are peanut/tree nut free with their snacks and they served items like Sun Chips, Vanilla Creme cookies, fruit bars and pretzels. They also served Arizona Green Tea :goodvibes

We're taking an early morning flight (7:55 a.m.) on Friday and I purchased those cereal cups (Cheerios, etc.) at Target. I simply put those in my carryon, get milk from the beverage service, and make sure I put plastic spoons in the carryon. I'm also going to put in a couple of bagels just in case there's a delay. On other flights, I've also found Subways work really well.

Just got home from WDW on June 30th and it's very common to see people stop at McDs etc in the airport and then carry that on the plane. I took Starbucks (Frappucino) on going both ways and no one said a thing. We only got the 25 cent size of Doritos and a beverage.

A caution about assuming that you will be able to get milk from the beverage service on the plane: you probably will not be able to get milk unless it is a transoceanic or transcontinental flight on a widebody. Smaller planes usually do not carry milk anymore.

I'd pick up some 1/2 pint cartons at a convenience store and carry them on with a ziploc of ice in a lunch-sack insulated bag.
