Taking shoes off at airport security?

Or dont fly.. See there are always choices...

1) take shoes off and let them go thru the machine, I'm pretty sure you're probably touching more 'nasties' when using the plastic trays you put your stuff in.

2) Dont take off shoes and go thru the other security.

3) Drive.

Like the rules or not, they can spot things in the shoes. Does this mean they catch everything? Nope, no way, it's being run by humans, and by our nature we're flawed. But if they do or have found anything dangerous then it's been worth it to me.

Is mine the only family in the western world that wears loafers?

I wear only Geox loafers or Geox mules.

think about the icky floor, the ick gets on your sock, you put that socked foot into your shoe, you transfer the ick inside your shoe.
I am a certified germ phobe, hey i work in health care, I have seen a lot of ick. and a lot of the dangerous ick you can't even see

Considering that Safetymom and I along with many other frequent flyers have our bare feet on the floor weekly and have never been ill from that experience, I am not going to concern myself with 'ick'. There are more important things in my life to worry about.

Don't know the answer to that, but wanted to comment that I also live overseas and this past summer I went through Naples, Munich and London and the only airport I had to remove shoes was London (Gatwick). That security process felt more like entering a prison.
Shoes are removed in America and in Canada for flights departing to the US. Shoes are not removed in most of Europe.

Well thats fine for you , and I am happy it doesn't bother you........but it bothers me to put my bare foot on a dirty public floor.........so booties it will be for us :)
and as for touching the icky tray with the nasties.........that's what my 3oz size of hand sanitizer is for :)

Here in Orlando I have the Clear card so I don't have to take my shoes off at all.

I think the reason I have been traveling for some many years at work is I don't sweat the small stuff. If anything happens while traveling I chalk it up to thats what happens when you travel.

I have been through much much worse in my life to worry about taking my shoes off, sleeping under the comforter, walking on the carpet, using the remote in hotels. Trust me it is all small stuff.

or touching the airline tray, the blanket on the plane, the pillow, etc etc etc.... :rolleyes1

I think that part of the reason that we DON'T get sick very often while travelling is that we have built up a resistance to the 'ickys'....

And that is a whole other thread - the overuse of anti bacterial products in America ;)

No one is talking about using antimicrobial products, I am talking about using alcohol hand sanitizer.
alcohol sanitizers do not make bacteria resistant, they just kill what they come in contact with end of story.
nothing more
over use of antibiotics and antimicrobial products is a whole different issue.
not the same as using alcohol sanitizer when you cannot wash your hands with soap and water.
