Taking one night off of RPR reservation, changes my AAA Rate?

I just called Universal to change my RPR reservation from 2 nights to one night. I am not changing the dates, just simply taking the 2nd night off of the reservation (AAA rate). The reservationist said that the AAA rate is no longer available for my first night, so my rate is now higher (standard rate). What the heck??? I have never heard of a such a thing, so I just hung up. Why would taking the 2nd night off, mean that I lose my first night's rate? I would understand if it were the stay more, save more, or something like that. She said it isn't that a 2 night's stay is required for the rate, she said the AAA rate is no longer available for that night (July 16). But I already have that rate! Is this accurate? :confused3 If it is, it is absurd!

Try calling the hotel directly not the reservation line. A lot of times they are able to help out a little more. I find this is true with most hotel chains. Let us know if you have any luck!

Yup, that is the way their reservation system works. It seems that many hotels use that same computer reservation system. I agree it is nuts.

Definitely try calling the hotel directly. They seem to be the only ones who can circumvent the computer system.

What happens it that the original reservation gets cancelled and then they rebook with the new reservation. If what you want for the new reservation is no longer in the system, you are out of luck. However, when you call the hotel directly, they seem to be able to get around that.

Luckysmom - is that not ridicuous? Happened to me over potter opening weekend. Called to change a 3 day pkg to 2 day pkg and no can do. Said they alot packages by AAA and they were out of 1 day packaged but had 3 day packages...so unlike disney of course where you can book a block of time and whittle it down when you know your airfare, etc.

We kept our 3 day package and checked out a day earlier thus paying 50 fee but still getting the cheaper rate for the first 2 nights. We kept it to hedge our bets in case we DID want that third night but alas one night would have been fine.

I just feel like US/IOA is like a glorified Cedar Point etc. I don't know they seem to run things so very odd....from their fast pass pay system to restaurant reservations to stuff like this....UGH!!! So what will you do?

Restaurant reservations are made at www.opentable.com

Nothing odd about that.

Most hotels are going of this new system and they will have the disclaimer on the confirmation email as well,as tell you when you call. Rates are based on occupancy levels so when you call a few weeks before a trip to change they no longer have to fill those rooms so the rates are higher.

Last year we had it happen with our stay at the Hilton but was able to speak to a hotel manager to change it.

Now we have just checked out early without any type of penalty too but they can sometimes charge you a fee for that too.
