Taking Magnets Through Security

I was wondering if anyone has every had any issues with taking magnets through security? I wanted to pack them in my carryons. I'm going to try to surprise the kids and decorate the door before they get there so I obviously can't wait for our luggage. Has anyone had any issues with magnets messing up their electronics? I'm just wondering how I should pack them.

Thanks!

We've never had a problem bringing magnets onboard, either in our carry-on (daybag) or in checked baggage.
The security screening is not as intense as when you're taking a plane.

My wallet has a magnetic money clip on it -- strong enough to pull my pocket toward the car if I walk close enough. Never had a problem running it through an airport scanner, would expect the same here.

We are flying to the port so we will definitely be going through airport security.

Magnets are not on the TSA list of things that aren't allowed in your carryon luggage. You can check at www.tsa.gov.

We've flown extensively over the years and having magnets in our carryon has never been a problem.

I have taken MANY magnets on our cruises (our WBTA, I covered the door ) No problems. I carried them in both carryons and checked bags.

:cutie:

I took a bunch of magnets for FE gifts on the Med cruise a couple of years ago. I got pulled aside for an extra search of my carry on at Security because they were a large block/mass in my bag but no issues after they looked at them

Same thing happened to us when traveling w/ one of those "magnetic dress up doll" kits we had for our daughter. It's not that magnets aren't allowed, it's just that if you have a lot of them bunched up together, it makes it hard for the xray machine to see thru your luggage. We got pulled aside and they prodded the bag w/ a long stick (while wearing gloves) then asked us to remove the object they found (a ziplock containing a magnetic board and magnets). Once we showed them what it was, they ran our bag thru the machine and again and we were cleared to go. Not a problem but it slowed us down. I'm glad I was reminded of this! I'm going to pack our door magnets in our checked bags...

I had six 8 1/2 x 11 door magnets in my carryon, and had no problem going through security.

We put them in our carry on a few years ago. A whole bunch in different Disney shapes. I would take them out of your bag and put it on the tray bc hey confused the heck out of the TSA guys and they ended up having me open my bag trying to figure out what was showing on the scanner. Once they figured it out it was no issue.

Good idea. I wanted them in our carry-on so we could decorate our door right away when we get onboard. You know, I'm wondering if how it's packed in the bag affects whether security stops you or not... like maybe certain ways it's packed makes it harder for them to see thru the bags or something. Probably also the # of magnets, size, and even thickness of them. Anyway, I'm going to use your idea of just being proactive and taking the bag of magnets out in the first place. Thanks!

I think I'm going to check mine as well. We are flying in one day early and staying the night at a WDW resort - I can grab them from my checked luggage that night so I'll have them when we board the ship.

If you put magnets into your carry-on bag, just be careful about placing your credit cards next to them -- like people who toss their wallet into their carry-on bag when going through security.

Magnets can mess up a credit card's magnetic strip.
