First let me explain. We are on DDP, I am on WW and want fresh fruit for snacks and breakfast. $1.50 for one banana or apple doesn't appeal to me, esp when I get bananas for 29 cents/lb here. Other than bananas and apples, what other fruit would be easy to travel?

I am less concerned about the fruit taking up space(since that space would be used by souvenirs on the way back). I also like the fruit bowls by Dole and DelMonte with the small amt of liquid in them-do I have to worry about the liquid going through TSA screeners if it is the carryons?

Amazon may be a possibility but not sure it would make sense if I spend more than I want on it.

I have taken bananna's, pears with me. I also brought home 10lbs of oranges we picked on our trip.

The fruit bowl are a no no because would have to be less than 3 oz. My peach container I am looking at is 4.3 oz.

Remember if you are shipping to a WDW resort that has a convention center there will also be a $10 handling fee.

I will say try Brother's All Natural Freeze Dried fruits....those things are awesome and my whole family loves them.

Then you can also take the packages into WDW parks and have additional snacks.

When we go I plan on purchasing a couple of boxes on their website (keep an eye out on their FB page, as they often times give an additional promo discount, which can even be used on top of the fruit of the month discount).

For instance 1 package of pineapples is about 40% of a pineapple.

Other than that, grapes, cut up pineapple chunks, apples, strawberries, etc. You may also consider a quick taxi ride out to walmart if you are not getting a car, and shop there.

i guess you can pack bananas and apples and oranges...but other than that Id say use garden grocer or another service to deliver it Or just use all your snack credits for pieces of fruit. I think Id just ship it to make life simple and let everyone use those snack credits for Fun stuff for the family...I mean, its disney after all :cool1:

The only trouble I've had trying to take fruit anywhere was when traveling internationally, and that's for contaminate and customs reasons. Otherwise, I doubt they'd care.

Here's a link to some tips: http://traveltips.usatoday.com/fruits-vegetables-airplanes-61212.html

Basically, if you're traveling with fruit or vegetables, keep it in it's original form (don't cut it up, or bring salsa) and in an easy to open container.

I packed bananas, oranges and apples in my carry on.

If we ate at the resort I usually grabbed a cup of fresh cut up fruit for a dessert and put it in the fridge for the next day.

At our resort food court we were allowed to make a "continental" breakfast with a CS credit which included a bakery item (bagel, toast) a piece of fruit (not the fruit cup) and a drink. By using the cs desserts for fruit cups I found that I really didn't need to pack as much fruit as I thought.
I know it's not a fruit, but a couple of bags of mini carrots would be easy to pack.

Correct me if I'm wrong but can't you get fruit on the DDP?

Yes as a snack. At over $1.50 per piece. I can get bananas every day at 29 cents/lb and apples 1.19/lb. I want to save those snack credits for a snack in the parks.

WOW! Where do you live that these are so cheap? Bananas are 69¢ & Apples are $1.99 here.

You can carry fruit on domestic flights, but not on international flights unless you eat it on the plane. You may not be allowed to bring fruit into another country. You will definitely not be allowed to bring fruit back into the US from another country.

I would be concerned about getting fruit packed in liquid through security. It might only work if you freeze it first. Or put it in checked luggage.

Wow 29 cents a pound! I thought I was getting a good deal the other day at the farmer's market when I saw them for 39 cents a pound. But also wow at 69 cents a pound. Apples here are cheap though.

We have done the food plan many time and reality is we end up with leftover snack credits a lot because we try to save them for the good stuff instead of using then for whatever we really want or need. Lots of ways to get lots of fruit into your diet. The food courts have WONDERFUL and generous size containers of mixed fruit for a snack credit. More than enough for more than one person. If you have kids, have them get grapes or apple sauce as their side and share fries or whatever with them and eat or save the fruit. Load up on fruit at buffets and ask at sit downs if you could sub fruit for the dessert. SOMETIMES you can.

We do take fruit cups for breakfast but we drive. It would be no problem with security in checked luggage but a no go for carry on. Be sure to double or triple bag it just in case.

I find bananas do not travel well for me but apples in checked luggage should be ok but your clothes may smell fruity. No way would I want the added weight to carry in my carry on. Watch the weight on your checked luggage to be sure it does not go over the weight limit! Thumbs up for trying to be healthy!

shouldn't be a problem for whole fruits or peeled and cut fruits...fruits packed in liquid are a no-no

I usually take tons of produce with me. I put it all in a grocery bag and send it through the scanners at the airport in a bin all on its own. That way if my apples look odd in the scanner they don't need to dig around in my luggage.

I'm a big food packer and I don't check luggage. Here's what I usually take with me...apples, bananas, oranges or cuties, homemade chex mix, nuts, oatmeal, dried nana chips, gum, E muffins/bread or bagels, sometimes premade sandwiches for the plane ride.

Good luck and happy healthy snacking!

A bag of any type of apples are 4.99 here. They never go on sale anymore. We like smaller apples, so we don't by the single ones. Bananas average about .59 / lb.

If you plan to check a bag, I will share my tip for packing crushable snacks:

You know those plastic "shoe boxes?" Used for storage and organizing? That or even the next size up ("sweater box") fits great in the bottom of the suitcase. I fill it up with thing I don't want squished, tie a ribbon around it to prevent it from popping open, and arrive with beautiful bananas (or non-leaking juice boxes)

This is also great for the way back, if you bought something fragile. I wouldn't really trust a snow globe in there, but it was good for my kid's wands on my way back from Universal. Also tend to stick my Disney picture frame in there every year.
