Taking food in?

Are you able to take food in? Do they check bags?

Wanting to have a couple of meals out, but would be handy to take snacks for lunch/on the go etc

They check bags but they aren't looking for food.

You are fine taking things in as long as there's no glass bottles or alchool

We too have never had any problem taking in snacks and drinks. Some people even take whole picnic bags without being stopped

I too have a question concerning taking food into the parks.
We're going for a day with friends in a few weeks. To say it harshly, these friends are cheap. They find a 6,99 childrens meal to expensive to buy for themselves and when going out for a drink they ALWAYS go looking on the menu for the cheapest drink on offer and no doubt they will drink that, all night, sip by sip and as slow as possible so they wouldn't have to pay for a second one... You've probably gotten the idea by now.
Now I know them, and they will be arriving with a huge bag of sandwiches, a lump of cheese and sausage, some butter and plastic knives and probably a few 1,5 liters water bottles to refill once empty.
I firstly feel VERY embarrassed at this, I just don't feel like this is something you do. If you are THAT cheap, then just stay at home.
Secondly I fear their food will be taken away or they will not be allowed to enter at the bag check, 'cause seriously I'm not talking about just a snack or two but about sacks and bags full of food and drinks.
I have tried and tried, yet I can't get into they're head that this is just something they can't do. Will they be able to enter without problemes with this massive amount of foods and drinks?

Bag check are not checking for food, but for alcohol and dangerous items. Disney restauraunts are expensive so you cant really blame people for wanting to save money if they need to. I went to Disney for one day recently and I had no intention of wasting money in the park, we took all our own drinks, snacks and lunch, and because of this we were able to splurge at Inventions in the evening.

I have lived in France for many years and beleive me keeping it simple is not frowned upon.

If you are embarrassed about these people then maybe you shouldnt be going with them (and them with you)?

Actually Disney have a policy of no food to be taken into the parks iirc. Though there seems to be no problems taking some snacks and drink bottles in with you, I have read of people having full on picnics confiscated. There are lockers at the train station they could put their food into and eat it around the lake perhaps.

You're not supposed to bring food in, and if you do, well, what other rules are you willing to break? Where does it end? I'm always surprised at how many people jump in with "it's not allowed but they don't check" or "you're not supposed to but we do". Really, people?

I will be expecting expensive food at DLP, so rules or not we'll be trying to take food in for lunch.

If we can't get any in I think we'll be heading back to the hotel room and/or heading to Salon Mickey and/or having a late breakfast and early tea and/or buying lunch but eating our evening meal at cheaper restaurants than we might have done.

Call it cheap if you want, but we've got a budget. Disney will get all of it, but if they want some of it from us at lunchtime, they won't be getting it at other times. They won't be getting any more out of us!

Just a word of warning they may get the knives taken off them (I know they are plastic but still) I saw someone get pulled over last year & they had a very blunt butter knife which was confiscated & they were told off for having it in their bag.

I do think some people go to extremes it one thing to take a couple of snacks in but a whole picnic is pushing it. I saw a family last year take several tables & chairs up at a restaurant whilst they had there pot noodle type lunch ( I have no problem with people having food of their own) but it was lunchtime & the place was busy & people who bought food at the restaurant couldn't sit at the tables.

I'm talking about 3 or 4 big water bottles of 1,5 liters, about 20 sandwiches, full boxes of cookies and probably a few bottles of fanta or something in the genre too. And they are planning on just entering the restaurant with us when we go get our food and sitting there, while we are having a hot meal and they will be eating their sandwiches...

At the fastfoodrestaurants I wouldn't mind but we were planning on Café Mickey and I would feel very embarassed if they did this, since they won't even be having a drink.

I've already suggested they'd just come a long for a drink or an ice cream yet they insist on eating they're lunch package there with us, but they refuse to pay for even a coffee or lemonade or something in the genre. I find this just rude.
You don't go into a restaurant without ordering SOMETHING in my eyes. And you especially don't go occuping a table (even not when your friends are eating) and taking out your homemade sandwiches and bottle of water.

And further I am very worried about the whole plastic knife thing, even if it is plastic I don't want security to look at us as terrorists or something.

Ugh, I know it's their money and I understand they want to budget, but there are limits to that and especially limits to what you can do without being impolite.

That's a very bizarre way to behave.

I agree it's one thing bringing in a drink and some snacks. Another thing entirely to bring in a full blown picnic!! There's a designated picnic spot outside the parks and this is where people with picnic lunches are supposed to go to eat them.

I even checked the date when I read your post to see if it was still 1st April!

I'm intrigued as to why on earth your friends would want to carry all this around? How on earth do they get on the rides carrying all this?

I myself don't understand it neither. It's their way of budgeting but if they are refused in the parks and they have to throw it all away to be allowed to get in or waste time and money by renting a luggage locker in the station and going picknicking outside the park, I feel they'll have wasted a lot more then with just buying a simple fastfood lunch.
We're arriving late morning and I myself will be bringing a few croissants and 2 bottles of half a liter of drinks, one for me and one for boyfriend en the croissants will be our breakfast on the ride there since we're leaving at 4 AM at home.
It's not like we're going to eat at fancy or expensive restaurants, we put in Café Mickey once they made it clear they weren't coming (or at least not eating) and we didn't have to take their taste in food/price category in account. Yet, we were more then happy with just a quick take out lunch at hakuna matata or a hotdog at cases. We we're planning on late lunch, a tea time (I want the souvenir mugs! ) with a Mickey brioche during the parade and a hotdog or pizza before getting back on the bus at 20.30 PM.

For in between I will have some cookies in my bag too but i'm talking about like 2 vanilla waffles for the both of us, not whole boxes!

I understand it's their money but I don't think they realize (or they don't want to realize) how inappropriate this situation would be. I mean, you don't walk into a restaurant and tell the waiter you're just gonna sit there without ordering anything. And we would feel very uncomfortable sitting there with all this delicious food and them drooling over it but not being able or wanting to order something to.

I get that they take this much since this IS what they would eat on a whole day, we'll be gone for over 22 hours so yes of course you get thirsty and hungry a few times in between but how good can your sandwiches taste after having walked around with them for half a day in your bag? Not to mention how awful warm or flat fanta or coke tastes after having had to many shakes and spins in space mountain.

Looking at the burden of carrying all the weight, the risk of having to go outside to pick nick and paying extra for a luggage locker for it if they can't take it in and just the fact that no one like the taste of dried up sandwiches and hot drinks more then a fresh hot pizza and a nice cool lemonade with ice in it, I just don't get they don't see how much easier and more comfortable it would be for everyone to just have meals there!
I've even given them recent prices and everything for they expected it to be way more expensive but even with the 'low' prices they won't budge.

I guess we'll just go and see what happens at luggage check as they are not budging and sticking to their plan. Yet if they can't enter with their survival pack, all they're going to hear that day will be "I TOLD YOU SO!!!"

Except what they say on there is wrong as if you look at the parks rules posted at the entrance to the park it clearly says that no food or drink is allowed in the parks - 4th line down

In restaurants I doubt they will be allowed to eat their own food, they will probably be asked to take it outside as they would be here. This is different though to having a picnic say on a bench inside the park.

If you feel so strongly maybe have a word with them and if they still insist then you can always go off and have lunch on your own?

Sorry if you already know this but there are filled rolls on sale in the Relay shop at the train station which are very reasonably priced (much cheaper than anything in the park) and will taste fresh!

Yet if they can't enter with their survival pack, all they're going to hear that day will be "I TOLD YOU SO!!!"
