Taking food across the border?

Now I'm worried.

We are traveling From Welland to All Star Movies in October. We will have our 1 year old daughter with us. I was planning on bringing my own milk for her. Is this going to be a problem? Also was going to buy the compliment brand "lunchables" for her (Disney ones with mickey crackers, cheese and meat slices).

Do you think we will have a problem with this?

Given the current status for meat and dairy, as long as it is acceptable, clearly labelled as being packaged in Canada, and unopened, you are probably ok. Just make sure you check the website right before you go just in case there are any changes.

My last shopping trip over the boarder I asked about fruit. We always stop at a grocery store in the states as we fly out of syracuse to go to Florida. I was told that apples were fine but you could not take any citrus across.

We buy turkeys when we go over the boarder, and I bring other groceries all the time... I just claim them...

One time when we were quickly going over(Sarnia crossing) before a baby shower we had to go to in Sarnia we had devilled eggs with us that we made for the shower. The border guy gave me a little lecture about not claiming them. Honestly i forgot about them, just remembered the salads. Said he could seize them, but did not....

I have lots of friends that go over & get turkey's when they're on sale & bring them back. A lady I used to work with loved these cornish hens they had somewhere & always brought them back whenever they crossed over for shopping.

We have never had any problems at the 1000 Islands border. Probably because we cross over so often and I either teach their kids, or my DH plays hockey with them! Heck- I even sang at one of the officers wedding last year! Just be honest. Declare everything, and don't bring fruits and vegies across.

A quick question, It says bakery items are ok but is this home baked or store bought? I was really hoping to make some Banana bread, cookies and muffins for our 2 day drive down to DLR this fall but I don't want it gettin seized at the border (Its too yummy to be thrown out :) )

NM, got the info here https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/318

I can bring my stuff!!!

Really?? Last time we were flying to Florida via Toronto, I forgot that I had an apple in my backpack until the US customs guy at Pearson asked if we had any fruit or vegetables (and of course, I was honest). He threatened to fine DH and I $300 each because we didn't declare it on the form, and then we got sent to the "secondary search" area where they made me throw it out - luckily they didn't search anywhere else!! It was just an apple, and we technically were still in Canada!! But for $600, I won't take any chances next time!

In answer to an earlier question, lots of great grocery stores near Disney. We timeshare there, and shop all the time. Prices are very similar to Canada, a few things higher a few lower. For some reason it surprises me that fruit is similarly priced? Stores are all open Sunday.

For bargain prices check out a Super Wal-Mart or Super-Target. If anyone has food alergies or sensitivities (my DS does), hit Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck) at corner of Turkey Lake and W. Sand Lake - everything you could want in organic, gluten-free, etc. Publix is our favorite regular grocery store (we like to one in I-Drive near Premium Outlets).

I would never take fruit or veggies if I were flying. Just driving.
