Taking Disney cruise = being "obsessed"

Argh!!! I have a couple of friends who have complained to me that they can't share their Disney plans with friends and coworkers, due to the "you're going AGAIN?!" type of comments. Since I had not really run into that I was not too sympathetic and did the "Don't let it bother you, they are either jealous you've gotten to go a couple of times lately and they can't or they just have no clue."

My family made a WDW trip in 1999, then actually went twice last year. I had a few comments from co-workers (I didn't talk that much about it, but they did know since I was gone a full week for each vacation, which I rarely do. ) I have not spoken of Disney at all for at least two months. On Friday, a coworker saw the ship deckplan on my desk and asked if I was taking a cruise. I said yes, and told her we were probably going to go in March of 2004 on a Disney cruise. She absolutely would not shut up about how I was "obsessed with Disney" to the point of telling other coworkers that I was "obsessed" because I was "planning a Disney CRUISE, too!" NOW I understand how annoying this can be!

So, guys, I guess by planning this cruise in addition to having made three resort trips in four years I am officially Disney obsessed?! Oh, well, I guess I could be called worse things, huh?

As you say, there are much worse things than being called "Disney Obsessed!" If you think it's bad for you, imagine the reaction of co-workers to hubby and I, who have been on 29 Disney cruises, with 6 more planned this year and 5 more already booked in 2004! But I wear my obsession as a badge of pride, and my "obsession" has now become a good-natured joke at work. When people question it, I point out to them that I believe in working hard and playing hard too because life is much too short not to enjoy it. There's not much they can say to that! It helps a bit that there are two other Disney fanatics in the dept. where I work, although they are not nearly as bad as me.

I just got my first 'comment' this past Saturday. A friend asked me if my daughters would like to participate in a program and gave me a flier. I saw the dates, and we would miss two out of four sessions because we are on vacation. She asked me where we were going and I said to Disney World. She said, "AGAIN?" I told her we will be going every year! That is why we bought into the DVC. And she already knows we cruise at least once a year on the DCL.

I don't really care though. Everyone has their 'things' that they obsess about. How many people do you know that golf all the time, or won't miss a football game, or go fishing whenever possible, or whatever brings them enjoyment. Vacations with Disney brings me joy, and I look forward to many more cruises and many more trips to WDW.

I guess I'm one of the obsessed ones too. I have had the occasional comments like "Are you going back there again" and from my neighbor "Why don't you just move to Florida?" (Believe me, we've thought about it ;) ) I really enjoy my Disney vacations & I'm really looking forward to my first Disney cruise. I have had great vacations with Disney & the quality of service I have experience has always been fabulous. I guess that's one of the reasons I just keep going back for more :D

Hello all....we are also part of what people call the "obsessed Disney fans"....but I must say it becomes contagious....we went to Disney for the first time on our honeymoon almost 25 years ago...the first time I ever traveled and the Magic Kingdom was the only park there. We took our daughter for her first trip there at 9 months old...she is now 23 and absolutely loves the place and still loves the characters....as we do also....we travel from New York 3 times a year to Disney.....once a year to cruise and twice a year to just hang in the parks or the hotel.....I do admit it is my fantasy world...but heck.....we need some fun and a place to just relax...do you notice when you are on vacation at the World or the cruise you kind of forget the phone....the days fly by instead of kind of dragging...I always say it is like always dinner time when I am on vacation and another day is done....with all the terrible things that seem to be happening lately...the threat of war....the threat of terrorism....horrible fires that kill young people watching a band....it is comforting to know that you can escape to the fantasy world....and as far as people telling others to move down there....it would not be the same if you could just go to the parks every weekend....and yes....some of those people who cannot understand why you go so often....I bet they wish they could be in your shoes......

We are offically Disney obsessed. We usually do a short Christmas letter instead of pre-printed holiday card. When I wrote in last years that we had done Disneyland in Feb., a 4-day Disney Cruise followed by two days at WDW in May, WDW for a week in October, and then a holiday trip even I realized it was a bit much. So we added to the card "yes, for those of you keeping count we have been to WDW three times this year....We're Mark and Mary and we are Disneyholics". The reaction was positive for the most part.

I have some friends who just don't understand and never will. I work with a much younger crowd and they don't understand at all. They want something new and exciting, places to party, etc. They don't realize they can get that at Disney as well. To each their own. Disney is what makes us happy!

In the past year we've had three cruises (3-7 night and 1-4 night combined with a 3 night stay at the Poly) - obsessed? Not really.
I agree 100% with Barb - work hard and play hard because you just don't know where you will be tomorrow!! Our bills are paid, we have the highest credit rating and we are generous to our Church and several charities - so what we do with our excess is enjoy ourselves!!

We have sailed Disney 7 times since 1998 (three in 2002) and been to WDW at least 30 times. I get ribbed about my Disney obsession all the time from friends and co-workers....BUT....WHO DO THEY ALWAYS COME TO ASK ADVICE WHEN PLANNING A WDW TRIP OR CRUISE....YEP...ME!!!!

I gladly share all my knoweldge with them and everyone who goes on the cruise comes back raving and saying now they understand....they finally "get it".

Since we all sem to have the same problems in life, maybe we should all get together and talk about it in a discussion group.
I suggest meeting at WALT DISNEY WORLD !!!! Any seconds to the motion....lol

My mom argued that our trip in 2001 was wasted on our 2 year old, because she wouldn't remember it. I said " they let you come to WDW as many times as you want, there's not a limit."

Tell your mom it is very likely that the 2yr old will remember. We took my niece when she was 2 1/2 yr old for the first time. It was also my first trip to WDW in 12 years. She still remembers it and talks about what she did. We have taken her back 2 times since along with her brother and cousin. They are Disney obsessed and so are we. Very proudly. We are now counting down to our first ever Disney cruise. (Rather impatiently):Pinkbounc :bounce:

I don't like it when people say "Again?" when I tell them I am going to WDW.
I would never dream of saying that when they tell me they are going to the Jersey shore for the 5th year straight, or going to their house in the Pocono Mountains for the summer. I think it would be rude of me to question how many times they take the same vacation, and I resent when they feel the need to comment on my vacation of choice.

I LOVE WDW and if I choose to go there, or Hilton Head, or Vero Beach or DCL, well that's my business.....and if you're my friend you will put up with me when I talk about it!

Okay, I will step off my soapbox now....I am Disney obsessed, and proud of my right to be such!!!:earsgirl:

Luckily I have a colleague who is at least as obsessed as I am and does WDW more often. Although she hasn't talked her DH into a cruise yet. :p

I've preempted a lot of the comments - on the wall of my office is one of the bumbper stickers that say "Been there, done that, GOING BACK!" Just wish we could do it more often!

I agree with DisneyNutMary! That women was just plain Rude with a capital R! She ASKED YOU!!!
I go to Disney at every oppurtunity. My kids love it, my hubby loves it and I love it.If that's what everyone loves, why in the world would we go somewhere else?

We've made a few mini trips to NY , Fl, and Wash DC to see family, and see the sights, but when it comes to a "family vacation" we head to WDW or DCL!

It takes all kinds. There are ALWAYS the co-workers whom make these remarks, the ones with "nothing better to say", LOL. I never take it to heart...and laugh when my DH tells me what they say to him at work. In fact, we both laugh. We take our Disney VENTURES very seriously, and have been traveling to WDW for the past 17 years together, every year...for more than 6 weeks! This summer, we'll be there 7+ weeks! It takes tremendous planning and saving to enjoy these sojourns.

We have taken the 7-night Western, (last summer)and loved it! We are booked on the 4-eve Eastern for this summer, along with adventures in Disney's VERO BEACH, CR (1BR suite on the 14th floor, YAHOO) and the WDW Dolphin, among others.

We believe in the "PLAY...IS VERY SERIOUS WORK" aphorism. We love to PLAY...so we WORK hard the rest of the time. :p We have also NEVER let go of IMAGINATION'S Hand, or stopped being a child. The THRILL of the excitement of our trips to WDW have Never diminished over the years. If anything, our passion for ALL THINGS DISNEY has only deepened. :) The naysayers...are the ones to be pitied. They have "no clue" as to the pleasures we DISNEY-ites reap from the Kingdom where MAGIC LIVES! Thank you, Walt....Again & Again & Again. ;)

You all are obsessed? I am so obsessed I spend 5 days a WEEK at WDW!! Talk about obsession!! :)

At work I don't get, "Are you going again?" Instead I get, "When are you going again?" And then, I proudly tell them!!!
I love going to Florida, it seems like a "Whole New World" to me and am really excited about our first MAGICal cruise coming up in August.
