Help!!! Our daughter is now at the age where its much cooler to travel with friends. (She's 10) The problem is that the friends that she wants to bring along both have little brothers that get really jealous when they're not included.

We want to take a few trial runs at taking friends to Baltimore Inner Harbor day trip and a different weekend camping at Luray Caverns. We are looking down the road to a possible trip to Disney in 2011.

Anyone lived this situation, and were able to tactfully able to invite the girlfriends and do it without hurt feelings?

Thanks for your help!

It's very simple...you invite DDs little girl friend and let her parents worry about their son.

If the parents say "Well, Susie's brother Jimmy will be upset if he doesn't get to go", the proper response is "Well, we can't see our way clear to bring both of your children, so thanks for letting me know'.

We have let our kids bring friends with us on trips. We have never let them bring the younger sibling of a friend. It is never going to happen.

I can't imagine anyone thinking that an invitation to their daughter to join you on a trip would include the younger sibling. If you think this might happen, then be very clear when you invite the daughter.

To be honest, I don't think the parents will assume that you're taking both of the children if you clearly say "We're so excited to have Susie travelling with us! She and Jane will love getting to spend time together and hopefully they'll have a great time at Disney World!" or something along those lines.

Hope it all works out for you and your family! :)

I know you don't want to hurt a little boy's feelings, but like PP said, that's really for the parents to deal with. I'm sure both of the younger siblings have been invited on play dates and to parties that the older sisters weren't!
I'm sure the parents will know that just the older girls are invited-- but be as specific as possible when you (not your daughter, obv) ask them: "We would love to take Evangelina camping with us." End of sentence, no room for doubt! :goodvibes

Remember the medical power of attorneys so if they get hurt you can have them treated. (long trips)

What happened to the good old days????

Also have the parents sign and notarize a form that says you have permission to transport their child across state lines if you will be doing so.
