Taking Cipro???

I was prescribed Cipro for a simple infection (take two tablets every 12 hours for three days). I'm not looking for a doctor's advice here, but just wondering if anyone has ever taken it and experienced what feels like heart palpitations? I have no heart problems anywhere in my family, so I doubt it's anything serious, and I have only one more pill to take, but I swear, at times, it feels like my heart is ready to pop right through my chest, and it all started when I started the meds. I will be fine, then a hard "pump, pump, pump", then it stops. Any ideas on this?

My DD has been on it for months & has never experienced what you described. I hope you get it figured out.

I would let your Dr know. It could be a rare side effect, an allergy to the class of antibiotics( fluroquinilones), or it could be you,meaning something else is going on. In any event , your MD needs to be made aware.

I would let your doctor know. Does it feel like your heart is racing when the palpitations happen? Sometimes antibiotics or being sick can cause anxiety but you still need to tell your doc. He or she will likely listen to your heart and do and ekg..it is painless and take a few seconds.

I am a pharmacist and cipro can cause side effects that include heart racing and anxiety as if you drank caffeine. It can keep you awake at night. If you drink a lot of caffeine you should cut back! If it is more than "caffeine like" side effects than stop taking and call your doctor
