Taking children out of school

mumoftwo sorry to hear of you're illness hope you're feeling better.
I am taking my 3 kids age 14,10,11 out of school for our first trip to wdw for 2 weeks.
I dont like them missing school but we wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise,
i priced it for august and it was £1200 more.
We have never been abroard before and i wanted their first holiday abroard to be a special.
Like mumoftwo said it's about creating fond memories for you're kids because you never know what is round the corner, so i say go for it.

Being sick has shown me how important family is and creating good memories just in case.

Absolutely :goodvibes :flower:
I worked in an oncology hospital for 13 years, where I met DH who has a brain tumour. 7 years down the line we have a 6 year old DD and a mass of lovely memories
All the very best with your followups mumoftwo and have a fantastic Christmas :grouphug:
I'm busy planning for next Easter....... ;)

mumoftwo - you've put this whole thread in perspective. Best wishes to you.

My school frowns on letting children out of school during term time - the children will end up missing out on something!!! I'm sure i've read about some companies now doing cheaper holidays during the summer holidays - for children and teachers!! (But not sure WDW is included.) Also, some schools can start fining parents - so be careful!

I think that schools that will consider a fine for parents are for children who persistently do not attend school.

There really are some children that hardly ever attend school and IMHO we should not get the two mixed up.

An excellent point was made earlier Stats are for school tables and not for our children.

Again another thumbs up for mumoftwo. I couldn't agree more.

SATs (not Stats!) are not just for schools - - - there is a bigger picture with results, and whether we like it or not, they are individual based and build upon, as well as a measure of a whole school. I'm not saying its right or wrong to pull children out of school - as a teacher, I can see why it's so important to stay in, but the draw of Mickey and co. is huge too!!!

As a teacher the thing that REALLY winds me up is when teachers (who i work with) ask for time off to attend family/friends weddings abroad (having an extra 2 weeks holiday...PAID!) or another teacher who is visiting MECCA in India 'she needs to go earlier in the year because its to hot for the children' ( and off the record cus its £400 cheaper!!!!) ...well excuse me we have to go to WDW july/august in the blazin heat with mega prices...LIVE WITH IT!!!!!

My family and their families know we work in school, so plan around the 13 weeks a year you get paid for!!!!!!! :teacher: sharon (moan over)

I hope she doesn't teach Geography!

Mecca is in Saudia Arabia
