Taking care of the cat

Our neighbors checked on our cat/fed her every day while we were on our last vacation. She is a very social cat and loves the human interaction. We brought back a Lightening McQueen t-shirt and sunglasses for their DS2 for taking care of our cat (yup, we were at WDW).

We have 2 cats, and everytime we go on vacation we change the litterbox & then put out 2 giant Pyrex bowls. 1 with food, 1 with water.

and we leave. :)

Im a petsitter too and i visit clients cats once a day for 30min, i do two visits per day to some cats as requested by their owners, cats do miss the company when their owners are away and enjoy lots of fuss when i arrive - purrs all round- i cant imagine leaving my cat or any cat alone for a week :confused3 if they have access to outside how would you know if they went missing or got hit by a car? i even visit peoples guinea-pigs once a day as requested to make sure all is well. Each to their own i suppose but i would say get someone to pop in at least once every other day.

I have one cat. She is a goddess-LOL
When we vacation- we have her checked on, fresh food and water and clean litter every other day. If the cat sitter is from out of town, she can wait 2 days. But, Usually "Grandpa" takes care of her, because he is close by and she loves his company. Personally, I think she is a bit more pampered when I am gone. DD laughs that it is like a vacay for her too!
I love Camilla.:lovestruc It is sick how much I worship her. She probably appreciates a break from me. LOL

Oh, no is that our couch oh and the table legs and the rug and what happened to the plants  As we learned to our dismay a lonely cat can be a destructive cat. :scared1:

So while you can go longer I'd say every other day at the most is probably good. If you've got a neighbor who will check in once a day that's even better.

We usually fill a large dog food size bowl with dry food when we go on vacation and it will last most of the week and make sure the litter is clean. When it's hot out in addition to filling the water bowl, we usually leave a few inches of water in the bathroom sink or leave the laundry sink dripping very slowly.

If you use leave in tank chemicals in your toilet (2000 flushes, tydibowl, etc.) make sure you close the lid before you leave as the cat will drink that water and get sick.

I have three cats and have always had our neighbor check on them once each day. I call it our "cat scan." :lmao: I'm too paranoid to leave them alone any longer. I fear they'll accidentally get trapped somewhere, or someone will get hurt and I'd like someone to know as soon as possible.

We leave for Disney in a few weeks, and they're all being boarded this year. They all developed arthritis in the past year :sad2: so they get meds every day. As others have said, I'd hate to ask my neighbors to pill my cats!

As an aside, I also have a Shih Tzu with medical problems who will be boarded at the vet.

I have determined that my pets' "vacation" will cost nearly as much as mine.
